Pluff Mudd Art is a unique gallery located in the heart of Old Town Bluffton, SC. Visit us and see why people in the lowcountry love Pluff Mudd Art!

Story

Pluff Mudd Art Gallery was originally formed in April 2002 under the name of A Guild of Bluffton Artists. Local artist Bill Mattox first came up with the idea of a co-op art gallery and approached fellow artists Lynda K. Potter, Jon Nelson and Peggy Duncan with this concept. They all agreed the idea would be a great way to promote local art in “Old Town” Bluffton. To increase the variety of art displayed at the gallery, they decided to invite other Bluffton artists to join them as members of the Guild.

In 2006, after 4 successful years at their original location, A Guild of Bluffton Artists moved across Calhoun Street to their present location. With the move, they expanded their membership to include local artists from Hilton Head and Beaufort and changed their name from A Guild of Bluffton Artists to Pluff Mudd Art.

The name “Pluff Mudd” also known as “plough mud” is the Lowcountry term used to describe the dark, soft soil found at the bottom of the marshes and at the edges of the May River, which is at the end of Calhoun Street. Pluff mud is an essential part of the eco-system of the marsh. Similarly, Pluff Mudd Art is an integral part of the vibe of Old Town Bluffton.

The Pluff Mudd Art is a co-op gallery. It has grown each year and owes its success to the talent, quality artwork and dedication of its members

I just love Pluff Mudd Art Gallery! There are many fantastic galleries in Old Town Bluffton, but this is my favorite. They have the most interesting variety of artistic styles in one location. It's a co-op of local artists, so there is always at least one of the artists there to talk to! Every time I stop by, the artist on hand has been very helpful, knowledgeable, and loved talking art! Don't be afraid to ask questions.
8/31/22…4:20 pm arrived at shop. Greeted at the door with a very cold welcome, “WE CLOSE AT 4:30 “….Anthony the nice gardener said “she would be happy to let you in, tell her I said so.” Didn’t get the chance, practically shut the door in my face. I will never ever shop there again. And I’ll make sure to tell everyone about her wonderful southern hospitality. I’ll spend my money elsewhere Miss Happy Pants. Sincerely, a northerner with much more hospitality.
Lots of local artists. A a variety of different types of art all very pleasant to look at. Check it out
If you love birds of South Carolina you are NOT allowed to miss this gallery and admiring the stunning photography by Kelley Luikey. She is a master photographer and a true artist! You will have a hard time leaving without a purchase of one of her masterpieces which she also donates a small percentage to Audubon South Carolina
The guy running the place thought we were joking when we told him we were looking for pluff mud pottery. He didn't know it existed. What a waste of time. It may have left a better impression if the moron hadn't been so condescending. One star only because zero isn't an option.
Very creative art work from many mediums.
We stop here whenever visiting Bluffton. Several local artist display here.
