Today, I am actually considering messing up my credit just to get out of this bank. I went in today to get a savings account and sign up for a credit card to start building credit. I set up the savings account easily and began inquiring about a credit card. The banker told me a few options and I decided to apply for the cash builder card. I knew I probably wouldn't be accepted since I've never had a credit card and the only credit I've built is 2 years of being consigned on a car loan. I was denied, but the banker explained that it was due to my lack of credit and told me I wouldn't be able to get a credit card anywhere and that my best option was a secured card. I asked about it and while it sounded dumb, I'm just doing it to get credit and she told me that she did the same thing when she got out of college. I thought it would be my best option. I applied and was approved. After I left I began researching and saw that people were saying that it wouldn't be unsecured after a year like she told me and that it costs $36 a year. Chante DID NOT tell me anything about it costing money and the agreement just says pay "any fees". She didn't give me the info papers until after and she just stuck them in the folder. I then called and spoke with someone and they then told me it was $25 a year and I explained that she didn't tell me that and I wouldn't have gotten it if I had known. I then went home and looked in the packet AND IT SAYS $36. So I'm being lied to AGAIN. I'm infuriated that the banker took advantage of my not having knowledge of these things and I plan to go to the bank tomorrow and either have the fee waived or I will cancel it and change banks immediately. I don't care if my credit is messed up because of it. I was lied to and as a student I'm extremely broke and don't have $36 to spend in a year when I could get other credit cards for free.
