The Plant City Police Department maintains order and improves the quality of life for our citizens. They are a full service law enforcement agency with a staff of 86 personnel; 68 of whom are sworn law enforcement officers.

My children met Officer Walker tonight and his k9 partner Jax (well heard him) and they loved every bit of it. This officer took a spare moment to say hi to the children as we were loading up in our vehicle and he gave them all little badges and lovely cards with information about his k9 partner. The kids were so thrilled to be talking to a real hero and it is all I heard so far all night is how when they grow up they want to be a Police Officer too. Thank Officer Walker for taking a moment and speaking with the kids it made their entire evening! Thank you to the entire plant city police department for your services!

I drove a bus of kids to homecoming at the fairgrounds last night. Normally I have high respect for all police officers however this one officer was outright rude and intimidating for no reason and over use of his authority for sure. I understand directing traffic can be stressful but this was uncalled for. I've heard before that plant city police are nasty and I saw it first hand. I will never bring my family or recommend to anyone to attend any function in plant city as this is not how I want to be treated.

POST FROM A COMRADE: Hello, Plant City Police Department how can I help you? Yes, do you know who Jesus Cervantes is? You have the wrong number, this is the Plant City Police Dep... I know where I called. Do you know who Jesus Cervantes is? No. You've never heard of him? No. That's a shame... because Plant City police killed him. This was the opening scene to my calls to Plant City cops and the chief financial officer of city hall this morning for some shred of logic to the budget allocation for a 300,000 dollar plus armored vehicle for the police department while refusing to allocate around a tenth of that for body/dash cameras. Sadly, I had to inform both PCPD and the CFO of who Jesus was; a young father, and husband who was violently shot to death by Plant City police in mental health crisis during which he called them for help. While Diane, the CFO, had quick answers like, "his funeral is over and we have to move on with 'that part,'" she had to look through her paperwork to even attempt to answer the question of why an armored vehicle was requested (and approved) by the city's CFO... Her. (Essentially its an unnecessary new toy for cops to play war on our city streets "during hostage situations and active shooter incidents.") But attempting to discern the juxtaposition in statistics of how many encounters plant city pd have with the public in general in which body/dash cams would be invaluable, as opposed to how many active shooter and hostage situations actually occur in Plant City is an exercise in futility. Diane accused me of "backing her into a corner." But rooms full of logic need no corners to hide in. Plant city police told me to ask city hall why allocation for dash cams was disapproved. And city hall CFO Diane informed me that no such request from Plant City pd was ever *made for dash/body cam funds. Two entities with their hands on fire accusing the other of lighting the match. Diane, the CFO, expressed her greatest fear of me sharing her words on social media or in the newspaper. If Jesus were here right now, I dare to suggest that his greatest fears might include a senseless act tearing his family apart. Watching his mother scream to the point of vomiting at his vigil, I dare to suggest that her greatest fear would have been losing her child to an act of violence. And seeing his grieving daughters and sobbing wife on the spot Jesus was murdered, I dare to suggest that their greatest fear would have been to have their loved one in crisis but rather than getting assistance and compassion, they'd encounter armed thugs who would rip their body apart with police bullets. My greatest fear is that without memory, concern, responsibility or sense, the plant city police, heavily armed with both weapons and impunity, will take more lives. At the very least, his murderers should know his name. It was Jesus Cervantes. And his life mattered.

To the police department it’s okay for underage kids to pull a knife and B.B. gun at someone just to steal, harassing a person for 30 mins and those kids get to be on the street still. Serve and protect what a lie
