About

Crisscrossed by old stonewalls surrounding open meadows this living museum is home to a collection of more than 1600 woody plants that Polly Hill began planting from seed in 1958. At any season the Arboretum offers beauty and tranquilty.

Mission

The mission of the Polly Hill Arboretum is to perpetuate the experimental tradition in horticulture established by Polly Hill by sharing knowledge of plants and scientific procedure through educational programs, research, plant conservation, and exploration. The Arboretum seeks to preserve its meadows and woodlands, to promote an understanding of its collections, and to encourage their utilization for scholarship, observation, and the enjoyment of all.

Products

Plants grown especially for Martha's Vineyard's unique climates and Arboretum logo gifts are available for sale in the Visitor Center, Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All proceeds benefit PHA.

What a fantastic little spot. Well maintained gardens. Very scenic barn and grounds. Grab a preloaded backpack from the visitor center. The kids loved this spot.

Super pretty and quiet walk away from the crowds with super knowledgeable staff and something for everyone to learn and enjoy. Kids can run around and others can marvel at the monkey puzzle tree. Take a break from the beach and crowds! At only $5 per person, this nonprofit is a super affordable attraction.

The arboretum was the highlight of our Saturday! The grounds are beautiful and the visitor's center is modern. Escape the crowds and have a picnic here. We came through mid-day and were surprised by how few people were there for how well maintained the area is. Do not skip this stop!

As good as any botanical garden only it is about trees. Beautiful to take a walk, picnic or learn about trees.

Nice fields and restored buildings. Admittedly a bit off season and blistering hot.
