I’ve been going to Pongal for over 20 years. The food is always fabulous. I suggest you bring a friend and share several menu items. Menu items: #32. #76 #6 pictured below. Vegetarian options: Entire menu Dietary restrictions: Wait staff ask for allergies. There are vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
Walked in and was welcomed and seated by Tipu, where I preferred to be seated. He was accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed Dahi Vada and Masala dosa. The room was full of energy and I had friendly and attentive service. Will def return back!Food: 5/5
Ironically, their spicy pongal is straight-up trash! Issues, in the hopes that they can improve: 1. I couldn't smell even a hint of ghee or ginger. Immediate red flag. 2. They had coriander leaves in it. Red flag #2 3. No curry leaves to be found, red flag #3 4. It was a runny mess and hence served in a bowl. On the brighter side, their mysore thali was pretty good. Vada was surprisingly fresh, and the dosa and utappam were both crispy. Keep in mind that their sambar is not a typical tiffin sambar. It's more like the sambar that's served with lunch.
Lovely little South Indian restaurant in the heart of Murray Hill; Pongal has moved across the street in a bigger and more spacious place. Loved the Ragi dosa and home made lemonade. Their chuntey and Sambhar is quite unique and super delicious. Service is really quick, Tipu was professional and made sure that I was taken care of! Definitely going back again
Good South Indian food. Decent decor. Good portions of the mains. Chats were ok. The filter coffee was a let down and seemed to be made of Bru and not the original decoction. even though the server vouched for its authenticity.Food: 4/5
Lovely yummy food. Reminded me of the comfort food I’m used to being cooked by my Indian friends. Well worth a visit.Food: 5/5
My go to South Indian restaurant when I am in the area. The food is great, their new location is very nice and clean.Food: 5/5
Visited here for dinner. Ordered sav puri and vegetable biryani. Biryani was pretty good and so was sav puri. Service was good too. Vegetarian options: There are plenty of vegetarian choices
Visited this restaurant yesterday. The service was bad, and some items, like the chutneys served with the dosas, were spoiled. However, the thali was good. Our group of six visited the restaurant. Initially, their manager, Tippu, informed us that there would not be any mandatory gratuity for our order as we requested to sit separately. But later, we saw a staggering 20% addition to our $145 bill. When confronted, he was rude and stated that this policy was printed in the menu. We had already looked at the menu and asked about the mandatory tip. The manager Tippu's audacity was more notable than the taste of the food he served. I would advise every Indian/South Indian family to be cautious. If you are dining with a party of more than three, they will likely add 20% to the bill, which is not worth it considering the service and the spoiled food. The management of this restaurant is also pathetic, as manager Tippu couldn't understand English well enough to communicate properly.
Great food! I'm not super familiar with Indian food so the the waiter made some great suggestions. A great experience. I'm defiantly going back.Food: 5/5
