My wife and I enjoyed our experience at Porta Nera. Starting with their bread, the bread and oil combination was a good start. For our meals, I got the Chicken Parmigiana and it was quite good. Everything from the pasta, to the sauce to the chicken and cheese was good. The portion size was massive as well! A portion size that I should have taken some home but it was too good and I finished it all! My wife got the spaghetti and meat balls and she like it as well. The only down side was the service. Like many restaurants, they are currently experiencing staffing shortage. Our food came out quickly after we ordered but it was awhile to get there. I won’t hold this against them because everyone who was there was hustling and doing all they could do. The owners were also there seating and bussing tables. Doing whatever they needed to help out and I can respect that a lot! Overall, we like the restaurant. We enjoyed our food and experience and would go back. I’d definitely recommend giving this new restaurant a shot of you like Italian!
Our party of 4 ate there about a month ago. We waited forever to be served. Finally got waited on when we were about to give up. Food was all right to only so-so. Most of it just didn't seem to have much flavor compared to other places. Got the impression the staff just wanted to get us out quickly as they weren't attentive at all. If they wanted us out quicker, should have not been so slow. But we won't bother them again as the food was only mediocre, and our entire party also had really bad diarrhea that night. Our belief is that it was the food from here. Maybe they were understaffed as one of us heard someone mutter something about nobody wanting to work anymore, which is code for they don't treat their employees very well. If their experience is anything like what our experience as customers was, that's pretty bad.
Went here with my family and it was fantastic!! Super glad we came in to try it out tonight. Our server was very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, everything was so fresh tasting. I had the veal piccattta with polenta. Phenomenal! The sauce was delicious and the veal was cooked and breaded perfectly. Totally 11/10 recommend Porta Nera to anyone. Thank you for a great experience!
The food is amazing! We have eaten here a few times and will continue. The amount of food you received for the price is the best in the city and the desserts are yummy! We have already booked our next date night!! Thank you Aaron & Janelle for a great experience.
If the veal had been available it would have been 5 ***** 's Portion sizes were excellent. The Calamari and the Mussels were beyond excellent flavors, temperatures everything..... We will be back xxxFood: 4/5
No where close to Vincenzo’s! We had calamari, Caesar salad, house salad, seafood risotto, and chicken parmigiana. The calamari was good, but the marinara sauce was tasteless. The Caesar salad was another tasteless wonder. I can’t comment on the house salad with ranch dressing. The seafood risotto was a disappointment. The shrimp was over cooked and dry, the risotto tasted like brown rice that was not cooked and then a jar of poor sauce poured over it, and boiled away. The tiny scallops and muscles were good. Heaven forbid they furnish another dish for the muscle shells! That would take away from the informal atmosphere they are trying to portray! I heard the chicken was good! The rolls were good, but the garlic butter for $3.00 more was frozen and tasteless! They are still posting reviews from Vincenzo’s which is totally misleading. They are not even close!
I had spaghetti and meatballs and my wife got chicken alfredo and we shared and both were delicious. We had cheese cake and a cannoli for desert and they also were delicious. The cheese cake is right there with and may be the best ive had. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!
Great place ,great Italian food. Love the Rigatoni Bolognese and calamari and marinara was good to. They are kinda hidden on a street that's not too busy at night and they could use the business so if you like great Italian in a romantic atmosphere with great wine check em out. Also would love to see a spag or linguini and clam sauce on the menu! Kid-friendliness: We had a two yr old with us and everyone was great.

My husband and I decided to try Porta Nera after seeing a coupon in Reach magazine. As an Italian, I’m picky about my sauce. This place hit the mark for me. My only thing, and it’s my personal preference, was a little too much sauce on the Penhe ala Vodka. I loved the mini penne though!! My husband had veal parmigiana and it was delicious. We shared the mozzarella & beet appetizer and that too was great. Service was excellent. Pomegranate martini was yummy!! The seasonal baked apple zabaglione was delicious!!! Look forward to a return visit soon
