Project Excel, a collaborative Easter Seals/Monticello Central School District program, provides educational services for universal pre-kindergarten students of Monticello and classified preschool children in the area. Among the educational services offered are daycare classrooms for students beginning at age 2.9 years old, private tuition pre-school for three year olds, Universal pre-kindergarten classrooms (integrated and non-integrated) and classes for children with disabilities (also integrated and non-integrated).
Project Excel classrooms are bright, colorful, and full of language development and language stimulation. The staff consists of well-trained, certified, experienced educators who are nurturing and trained to provide endless possibilities for student exploration and “hands-on” learning. The educational philosophy of the classroom follows that of the Monticello Central School District and echoes the early childhood policies of Easter Seals. This includes providing an educationally stimulating classroom environment enriched with developmentally appropriate pre-academic stimulation and positive behavior management strategies. The program uses the very renowned “Creative Curriculum” incorporating activities such as language arts, music and movement, guided socialization activities, opportunities for gross motor development, opportunities to participate in simple cooking activities, exposure to science activities and computer instruction. By providing students with ample opportunities to explore areas of their interest, the curriculum focuses on using the strengths of the students to build self-esteem and the important preschool skills of socialization, language development, academic readiness and motor development.
