Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport

Story

Pullman–Moscow Regional Airport is a public airport in the northwest United States, located in Whitman County, Washington, two miles (3 km) east of Pullman and four miles west (6 km) of Moscow, Idaho. The airport is accessed via spurs from State Route 270, and has a single 6730ft runway, headed northeast/southwest (6/24), aligned with Moscow Mountain to the northeast, the highest summit in the area. The rural airport in the Palouse region is the primary air link for its two land-grant universities, Washington State University in Pullman and the University of Idaho in Moscow. Both universities use the airport for jet charters from Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and Allegiant Air for their intercollegiate athletic teams. Horizon Air (marketed and sold as Alaska Airlines) is the sole commercial airline serving the airport, flying Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft. Horizon began service to Pullman–Moscow and Lewiston in March 1983.

Our local airport is an under-appreciated gift to the community. With less than a 10 minute drive from my home, I can board a plane and travel anywhere in the country. No long drives, no hassle with parking shuttles. Just pull up, check in, and fly. Why drive 90 minutes to Spokane? Or five hours to SeaTac? The added cost of flying out of Pullman/Moscow is more than made up for not having to drive anywhere. If you value your time as a business traveler, PUW is an amazing value! And a strategic part of our region's economic future.

I've been flying in and out of here for 6 years. People need to understand that this is a very small airport and when they say to check your baggage and yourself in 40 minutes before your flight, they mean it. I read another review about not being allowed to check in at the airport - honestly, I've never met anyone who waits that long to check in for their flight when they can easily do it online 24 hours ahead of time. They have a limited staff and in order to keep flights on time and running smoothly, they need all hands on deck when the incoming aircraft lands. This is not secret information, it's there for you to see. If I arrive in enough time to check my bag for a 5am flight, you can too. I really appreciate that they're not going to delay the rest of us for the convenience of those who are careless in their planning. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is because the airport needs an updated runway/winter system. Flights in the winter are often cancelled due to heavy fog and the airport would do well to fix this problem. I've heard that there are plans to expand the runway so we'll see. Overall, this airport is a good option Spring-Fall.

Everyone is really nice here, BUT, the flights often get delayed up to like an hour or two. Probably more do to with Horizon Air than the airport people themselves. On top of that the wifi is garbage so sitting here for so long is torture. If possible, don't start driving out here until like 15 mins before boarding. That will give you enough time to see if they delay the flight or not before you start driving.

I don't understand the negative reviews! It is clearly stated that the check in desk closes 40 minutes before the flight is scheduled to depart. They also make announcements in the last 15 minutes or so to remind people to go get a boarding pass or check in their luggage. The reason it closes is that the check-in personnel goes out to meet the incoming airplane, helps disembark the passengers, unload their luggage, load the next flight's luggage on board, prepare the plane, then go back in to let the next batch of passengers on board, and so on. Why have they done it this way? I have no idea, but it's a tiny airport, with 1 airline (read MONOPOLY!). Again, in my experience the staff at least does everything in their power to help the passengers, and all of them were smiling and being courteous at 5 in the morning! TSA agents were really nice as well. Thanks for the great work!

Good airport but parking isn't free unlike Lewiston ID 40 minutes away. I'd you are gone for a while and have to leave your car, fly out of Lewiston.
