Purgatory's Pub occupies a part of Bettendorf I've been trying to get to know better over the last few weeks. Occupying an unassuming building along State Street in the downtown area, I've driven by it day and night, often times on my way back from the Freight House Farmer's Market. After a meal and drink at the nearby Main Event, I decided I wanted to stay out for a little while longer tonight - Purgatory's seemed like the place to continue on to! The building occupied by Purgatory's Pub looks just slightly out of place in this area. Consisting mostly of lightly worn reddish brick, the place looks like it was once a small pub among a row of similar looking pubs/buildings in the area, but somehow only it remains. Regardless of it sticking out a little, I like it - it looks a little more aged and worn with character in stark contrast to the Waterfront Convention Center across the street or the Ascentra Credit Union office immediately west. The interior continues these appearances and affectations. The floors consist of a newish two foot square laminate tile, the walls are mostly painted wood paneling of some type, and the ceiling consists mostly of two by four foot drop ceiling tiles. There's really no formal lighting to speak of - the space is illuminated by a combination of the neon beer signs on the walls, the TVs above the bar area, and the backlighting behind the liquor bottles. It's a good aesthetic overall - I found it very relaxing on the eyes. I only got one drink during my visit at Purgatory's - a Hendricks and Tonic. I'd never had Hendricks Gin before this, but I'd definitely have this particular Gin and Tonic again. It was smooth and a little sweet - exactly what I want in a good G&T. I might have to try a Hendricks martini at some point, just to see what it is like. I could see coming back here many times in the future with friends. There's ample seating in the room next to the bar, which contains more TVs and a pool table, as well. Thanks for the great drink and atmosphere, Purgatory's!
The bartenders are always fantastic, friendly, and fast when it comes to service. The food comes out fast and is well-prepared, standard pub fare with care. It's a perfect place to grab a quick lunch and a beer. Or 3, depending upon if you have work.
Love stopping in when I am down on State Street. Did not eat today. Just stopped in for a couple drinks. Love the bartender! When I have eaten there, food was excellent. Stop by!
Bartender was fantastic, it was super slow when we all showed up. She was great went around put barstools down made sure everyone was taken care of and happy, she was and is definitely a great Bartender
Great vibe. Super friendly staff. Awesome food!
Have to go 5 stars because they went out of their way to accommodate a possibility of 200 people. Had food specials, set up out door seating, tent and had a live band. Really appreciated the way they accommodated our large group.
Bartender was awesome. Neat place.
Awesome place to just hang... The bartenders are on point . They know how to pour a drink. Im from out of town but the locals made me feel welcome as did the wait staff. I'll keep coming back.
It was awesome little crowded but still awsome .
Terrible experience two nights in a row. The bartender/cook wasn't concerned about anyone not sitting at the bar. Bar seats weren't even full, if the bar was even a bit crowed I would understand. We waited a half hour and had to get our own menus and she never even came to ask what we wanted to eat so we left.
