This is such a small town so I hate putting this out there, but docs need to learn to follow due diligence. And this needs to be brought to someone's attention, or doctors are just going to keep dismissing people with real issues because the doctor has on blinders and can't think out of the box. Now I have been seeing doctor Nations for years and he is a more than nice guy, but nice does not save lives. I went to HCHC Breckenridge earlier this year complaining that my heart was going crazy. It was palpitating, skipping beats, jumping around, pressure felt like it was up and down, and I felt like I was going to pass out with every step. I had to unbuckle my bra at work because I felt constricted like I was going to pass out. I was tripping up and down stairs and was sweaty and felt lethargic all day. I went home after work to rest but then had some weird pain-burning feeling on the left side of my body. A few nights before I honestly felt that i was having a heart attack. Frustrated with things not getting better, I went straight to the clinic and was assigned to Dr. Nations. I told him what was going on and they did do an EKG and heart x-ray but said they found nothing. My palpitations, skipping beats, sweating, lethargy, and losing consciousness in the past was all chocked up to anxiety. Oh I'm just having a panic attack he said and said I should try meds, which was what he said numerous times before. Ironically, a few nights later I woke up in the middle of the night screaming because of a pinched nerve in my neck. Once the local physical therapist opened in the morning, I immediately went over. I filled out the initial paperwork and went over my symptoms with the physical therapist who was actually still an intern at the time. He kindly and patiently listened then asked what I was doing about those symptoms. I told the young man that I see numerous specialists and doctors but they all say I'm healthier than a horse and chock it up to anxiety. The PT said it sounded like I had an arterial problem and should see a doc asap, especially since my blood pressure was pre-hypertensive at the time. Not wanting to go back to HCHC, I called the local cardiology office on my own and made an appointment. Come to find out I have aortic valve stenosis, which was probably exacerbated by about at least a decade of high blood pressure that HCHC tried too call "white coat syndrome", instead of doing due diligence. My blood pressure was in the 140's every time I came in for years but no one looked into it. I also have unexplained heart scarring. If Dr. Nations did not know what the problem was, he should have referred me elsewhere instead of calling it a panic attack. Now I'm 34 with heart disease that maybe could have been mitigated years ago if someone paid the slightest bit of attention. Funny how a physical therapy intern knew more than the doctors I see on the regular. People, do your own homework, they don't call it "practicing medicine" for nothing. If you feel bad get more opinions. Don't just let the first person you see tell you it's in your head and leave it at that. We only get one life.

I've seen Dr Nations 3 times this year. He did a great job treating a wicked cough that it would seem almost all the locals in Breck had this winter. Will continue to see him as a Family Practice Doctor.
