It is ok, not the cleanest most comfortable room. But it's real close to the HITS Showgrounds and a lot cheaper than the hotels in Kingston. I'd stay there again. Stayed a second time there won't be a third.

We have stayed at this place possibly six times this summer and we love it. There are some unjust scathing reviews out here basing their view in comparison to five star hotels. My girlfriend and I love hiking in the Catskills and we stay at this place often as it is a short drive to most of our hikes. Don't expect a castle for the price of a mole hill. This can be best described as a rustic cabin sort of place. If you want a 5 star rated place be ready to pay over $300 per night on short notice. If you can't afford that and love a quaint little place with privacy, go ahead and book this place. The owner seems to try his best to take care of this huge property. It does need some updating as some people suggested but in my opinion I wouldn't change a thing. If he does renovate this place, expect to shell out at least $100 a night. What I expect from my stay: Clean laundry, quiet neighbours and no bed bugs. All of which are perfect at this place. We are always well rested and ready for our crazy hikes the next day. It was funny to see a review out here of a guy complaining " I had a difficult time applying my make-up" (possibly his lady friend using his account to post a review of the 5-star hotel he promised her ) ...My suggestion would be to lay off the the make up for a while dude and enjoy this place. Cheers.

As a previous reviewer wrote, don't expect big chain hotel accomadations, and you won't be let down ! This is small family run business and the proprietors are kind and flexible, plus, for 60 bucks a night it's a great deal ! It's close to many area attractions, and as a tourist that's the reason why you're here isn't it ?! It's charming and quiet, with nice views of the Mountains in the near distance. I highly recommend Red House Inn if you're visiting the Saugerties/Woodstock/ Hudson Valley/Catskills area, you'll be where you want to be and pay less than half of what you would elsewhere, which means more money to spend on area fun, and that suits me just fine ....! I was there for HITS--the area hotels were very full with horse enthusiasts so I took a chance on this place after reading mixed reviews--it was wonderful! Very quiet, nice views, and I even got a chance to brush up on my Chinese with the grand old gentleman who runs the place--very close to the showgrounds

Would Not Recommend - My fiancée and I stayed at the Red House Inn in Saugerties, NY: 7/18/14 - 7/24/14 while visiting family. We had a difficult time finding a hotel room due to a large horse show taking place in town. The Red House Inn had availability, close to our family, for $74.95 / night. The couple who ran the location were very kind and accommodating. Upon request they changed our reservation from a Queen room to a King room for the same $74.95 / night price. When we arrived, we couldn't help but be disappointed; the website pictures do not match the location. PROS: The sheets were cleaned and laundered. The towels and wash cloths were clean with a new batch provided daily. Working A/C unit in each room. CONS: This motel is aging and run down. The exterior paint is faded and chipped, many exterior lights do not work. I had to use the flashlight app on my phone to see when we arrived after dark. The room smelled damp and aged. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls, furniture and decor were old, dated and dirty (dusty). The shower curtain would not close properly and half falling off due to an old, rusted shower curtain bar and curtain hooks. The lighting inside the room and bathroom were sparse and poor. I had a difficult time applying my make-up. The bath towels provided (albeit clean) were thin, threadbare and small. Most of our showers were cool or luke-warm, I can only recall taking 1 hot shower during our stay. Windows did not have curtains or, those that did, were falling off or fit poorly. We found cobwebs and spiderwebs inside of our room. The room has a dead bolt that does not work. The only way to secure our room was with a small, awkward to use, door handle lock. We chose to take our valuables with us everyday (jewelry, iPad, etc), we only left clothing and toiletries in the room while gone.
