Housekeeping does great, staff could be friendlier but not so bad. I would stay again.

Clean and quiet. Nice water view. Good area. They haven't upgraded from carpet to laminate like a lot of the other ones yet. The bathroom faucet was messed up. Everything else was good. They have a lot of rules.

We booked a weeks stay at the Red Roof Inn in Ellenton but ended up staying 2 1/2 weeks because the apartment complex we wanted to get into was taking longer than expected. Coming from Michigan with no place to live, we were thankful to find a cheap place that allowed our cat to stay for free. I'll admit that there were definitely some shady characters hanging around but they didn't really bother me or my family. In fact, most of the people were friendly. There were renovations going on to some of the rooms but it hardly bothered my husband who worked nights and slept during the day. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Housekeepers hardly spoke English so it was frustrating trying to work out times for them to clean our room when it wouldn't bother my husband. If you bring a pet they must clean your room every day. 
I know people complain about the breakfast selection - it consists of muffins, danishes, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, coffee (regular and decaf), powdered vanilla, regular & hazelnut creamer, sugar and sweet-n-low, apples, oranges and fruit juices. Milk too. The pool opens at 9 and closes at 9, and although it says no food or beverage there were plenty of people drinking and eating by the pool during Labor Day weekend. The room was decent, two beds, a TV, microwave and fridge. Both rooms we stayed in had a light shortage in the bathroom but it would just flicker for a moment then work just fine. The best part of staying here was the view of the lake. Alligators, amazing birds (that swim!), turtles, and lizards everywhere! It was beautiful. I would recommend for a traveling family or if you have a pet. The kids loved it here, too. Although getting ready for school in a cramped space wasn't fun, we're were just thankful we had a clean place to stay. Oh and the ladies in the office let my kids do their homework in the lobby while my husband slept which was so helpful!

We were here visiting family and the building is undergoing construction. Pets are allowed in guest rooms ONLY (this includes eliminating the lobby entrance). This is right off of the exit, so easily accessible.  Rooms are often rented to passing-through adults for nightly flings, or so we noticed during our 3 days in town. I would not advise bringing children.

Out-dated furniture. But who cares. Its great for a quiet moment away from the kids.
