Update: 2/3/18 Drove through Wiscasset and Red's Eats was all boarded up waiting for spring. Can't wait for the melt and warmer weather. 

We drove past Red's Eats many times for more than 3 years before deciding to stop and see why everyone was out there standing in line. Our first visit was on a beautiful early fall day and it took more than an hour in line before we reached the order window. It was worth the wait.  The lobster roll my wife had was terrific and the scallop meal I had was perfection.  While waiting in line they brought umbrellas for shade and came around with water and paper cups.  The seating is outdoors at tables with large umbrellas.  If you want to eat here on the way to someplace else be sure and allow time for the stop.

The amount of fresh, juicy lobster that you get on a roll at Red's is unbelievable. However, waiting in line can be somewhat of an endurance contest on a warm humid day. If you don't mind a wait, then this will be one of those quirky, fun local experiences that adds to your visit to the Maine coast.  There are just as good rolls in most towns along the coast, but there is only one Red's.

Yes, the line is crazy and the prices are a little high, but I believe it was worth the wait. They gave 2x the lobster meat that we got anywhere else in the northeast, and it was delicious. Definitely the best lobster roll I've had on any of my trips to the area. The service is friendly, and the food is amazing. The scallops are amazing as well. My only regret is not ordering more food, not because of a lack of quantity, but because it was that good.

LOBSTER ROLL (all caps because the roll is huge and spectacular).  Everything else here is good as well.  Worth the wait (and yes, there will be a line).

We can't get enough of this place, the wait is well worth it!!  There are about two lobsters worth of meat in every Lobster Roll - the fried dough boys are incredible.  Don't pass this place up!!  Incredible doesn't even begin to describe the food & the staff is always super friendly and polite.  Politeness goes a LONG way with me & my family!!  We enjoy this place every time we come!  Never a disappointment.
