Working together to build a healthy and vibrant community that ensures success for all.
Our vision is that all people living in Redwood City and North Fair Oaks are healthy, safe, and successful. We bring our community residents together with local organizations and public agencies* to develop and implement a wide range of projects that are focused on building on strengths and addressing needs in our community. Our goals are to reduce the impact of poverty, improve the academic success of students, increase community engagement, and enhance safety. Redwood City 2020 serves an ethnically diverse population of children, youth, and families from some of the most impoverished and under-resourced neighborhoods in San Mateo County where poverty, violence, and a lack of social services often present barriers to the safety, health, and success of community residents. While no single organization can address complex community issues, we believe that, together, we can affect the positive change needed in Redwood City and North Fair Oaks.
Redwood City 2020 brings together key public and private organizations in our community in ongoing efforts to ensure the health and success of all children, youth and families served by the Redwood City School District. Together, Redwood City 2020 partners identify barriers and then implement collaborative approaches that will open the doors to success.
Redwood City 2020 builds meaningful partnerships to support the success of children, youth and families and engages and strengthens the community we serve.
Redwood City 2020 is currently leading efforts in three major strategic initiatives:
1) Community Schools
2) Community Health and Wellness
3) Community Engagement
Our Community Schools initiative unites the most important influences in children’s lives – school, families, and communities – to create a web of support to prepare them for productive, engaged adulthood. Within Community Schools we are focused on:
--Supporting collaborations and partners at the 6 current Redwood City School District K-8 community schools
-- Providing mental health and other wrap-around support through the Sequoia Teen Resource Center
-- Convening a cross-sector workgroup to explore and create possibilities for expansion and sustainability of community schools from cradle to career
Health is not only a trip to the doctor’s office – health starts in our families, is supported by our neighborhoods and continues with the choices we make. Our Community Health and Wellness initiative focuses on:
-- Reducing teen drug and alcohol use
-- Increasing the number of students who walk and cycle to school
-- Increasing access to healthy, affordable food
We believe that the diversity in our community is valuable and that positive relationships are at the heart of our success. Our Community Engagement initiative is focused on:
-- Increasing youth development opportunities
-- Engaging families as partners in students’ achievement
-- Creating a welcoming community with enhanced cultural and social awareness
