How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. – Psalm 36:7
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1
We are a church for (the real) you – focused on (the real) Jesus.
While there are many churches in our area, we are a little different because we realize that people are different. We’ll accept you as you are and point you to a Jesus who IS. We aren’t about corporate Christianity or vague spirituality. Instead we’re here to build a community around grace and truth.
VALUES
Our values define our belief system which guides our Refuge processes and systems; these values guide our plan, our daily actions, and our decisions:
We Have Good News (Gospel) – Jesus is real and what He did changes everything. Through Jesus, God’s power has entered history to renew the whole world. When we learn to rely on Jesus (instead of on ourselves) God’s power changes our lives.
Found People Find People – If this is really good news, it’s too good to keep to ourselves. Though we work for sensitivity and respect in our dialogue, we boldly share the message of Jesus so that our friends and neighbors can be set free and experience grace.
Grace Meets Truth – We will welcome anyone (no restrictions) and talk about the Truth of Jesus like He’s displayed in the Bible (no restrictions there either) in that order. That means that the Bible is True in an ultimate sense, that Jesus is the only way to be saved and that we are all sinners who can be saved by grace.
Safe Community, Dangerous Faith – Church should be a safe place for broken people to find a relationship with Jesus. You can’t do life alone. Following Jesus is risky enough, the world is plenty hostile, Refuge is a safe community that equips you for a dangerous faith. At Refuge we see classes of people loving one another who could not have gotten along without the healing power of the gospel. Here we see sex, money, and power used in unique non-destructive and life-giving ways.
Growing People Change – Jesus’ Good News changes people from the inside out. Jesus gives us a new identity, setting us free from guilt, religion and the need to perform. Jesus sets us free us to accept people we once excluded, and to break our slavery to stuff (even good stuff) that once drove us. The gospel especially makes us warm toward those who do not share our beliefs
Live Like Jesus Is Worth It – “Worship” is a word we use to describe a song, act of service or lifestyle that showcases the fact that Jesus is worth more than anything. This isn’t limited to a church worship service, During our activities, we sing, serve and give to show that Jesus is worth the best of our time, treasure and talents. Additionally, Refuge encourages people to showcase Jesus’ value by have a deep, vital, and healthy impact on the arts, business, government, media, and academy of our community.
Saved People Serve People – Jesus is more than our Lord and Redeemer. He is also our example as students are never greater than their teacher. Since Jesus can to serve and not be served, people with the power of God unleashed in their lives can’t help but serve the world around them. We do this by using our gifts and resources for the needs of others, especially the disenfranchised and the poor. Beyond meeting individual needs, we also work for justice for the powerless.
You Can’t Outgive God – Life is more than money, but money is a powerful tool. As followers of Jesus, we give our time, talents and treasures to the cause of Christ. God, through His Word, promises to outgive us, though His gifts are often accounted by joy, freedom and eternal reward.
