Jesus said this when he invited two strangers into a three step, life long journey of discipleship, and we invite to you to join us in the same way on the same journey.

First, Jesus invites us to COME worship and accept the unconditional love and grace God offers.

Second, Jesus invites us to follow him and in so doing, CONNECT with his words and teachings to further strengthen our faith to spread the good news.

Third, Jesus assures as we grow in faith, we will also want to CARE for and SERVE others in his world and invite them to join with us on the same journey.

I grew up at RUMC including attending youth groups throughout junior high school and high school.  Recently, I was asked to photograph a wedding at this church and was sorely disappointed with the manner in which the pastor handled the special occassion.  Specifically, I was prohibited from taking photos from the aisle.  Additionally, I prohibited from taking flash photography during the processional.  All suggestions to help bring asthetic to the ceremony and venue were flatly rejected.  As this church is very dimmly lit, the results were less than ideal.  This church used to be vibrant, accepting, and full of great memories.  Unfortunately, my opinion has soured.  I simply cannot recommend this church or the Pastor for wedding services.

I was born and raised at Renton First UMC. I didn't realize how special this church really was until I went to college and attended a Bible study with a group which was very rigid in their beliefs. While with that other group, I asked questions which were unexpected, was simply told I was wrong, with no explanation or critical thought. At that point, I realized what I loved so much about Renton First UMC: I am free to raise questions about my faith with others in the church community, and together we work to improve our understanding of our faith. While other churches might expect you to leave your brain at the door, the experience at Renton First UMC invites you to gain a greater understanding of your faith by challenging your heart and mind.

(...of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg... there are also great programs for musicians, youth, camping, public service, mission work...something for everyone!)
