Republic may be the reason I explore Takoma Park more! It has a creative menu with high quality ingredients and fun cocktails. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options are available. The staff was nice, though wasn't fully attentive because it was busy on that day Thursday night. Save room for dessert because it's some of the best you'll have in the area.

Very disappointing dinner at venue we have usually enjoyed. We were offered a booth at first but were then told that it was being commandeered for a video screen to show a movie. So our party of 4 was seated at small table not nearly large enough to accommodate oversize plates, bottle of wine, etc. Spent most of the dinner shuffling things around table to make room. Oysters good but shucking was ragged with bits of shells. Not until we had finished appetizers/oysters, were we told the entree short ribs were going to take at least another hour to cook. Surely they could have told us this when we ordered. When our alternate choice was served, the sides were cold. Service was OK but the overall experience was very disappointing. Perhaps this was just a bad night for the kitchen.

Great food! Great service! This is a gem in the area, a true local hangout but also a spot to grab a good meal and drinks in a nice environment. They also have outdoor seating in the back.

Good dishes and sweet place to eat, but the portions were tiny at brunch. The last time we went here for dinner, it was an amazing spread. Great sizes and quality and all around delicious.

I've been coming to Republic regularly for months now. I'm never disappointed by their high quality menu and MOST especially by their beer selections. They're now doing flights of local craft beers and have a fantastic indoor and outdoor space. Got kids? Family friendly. Gay or lesbian? They have a night. This Takoma neighborhood bar is a place you should visit. Pictured, the delicious shrimp sliders (the oyster version is also fantastique.)
