Spent 5min getting through their automation system only to be hanged up on and then receiving a message that they close 10min early... Update: The following Monday, Dec 19th, 2022, I received a call from a representative apologizing for the dropped call. She cleared up the error I was initially calling about within 10min. I appreciate the accountability and follow-up.
Even if you file and setup to pay your taxes on time, if they don't receive your money that day when it was scheduled, they fine you and send you penalties in the mail, when it is a delay in their system. They are absolute thieves.
Beware Military service members, Apparently, the state can track your federal return but can not be bothered to bounce your name against the DoD registry. A third-party website can verify my active duty service but a state department can not?! Next, they do not include a prepaid mailer, they expect pt you to pay. Not only are they requesting sensitive information they do not care if it gets lost or if the information is at risk. Furthermore, no matter the cost to me it should not cost me money to prove that I do not owe you money. This is ridiculous and I hope other people who are on active duty do not fall prey to this predatory tactic.
I was due a refund in 2021, got less than half of it. They then sent my husband 2 different letters saying they took 2 different amounts of the refund cuz he owed from 2015....why 2 amounts though from the same year. Then we got a 3rd letter saying there was an error and we'd be getting the full refund for 2021...all these letters came on the same day in March and we haven't gotten anything since; nobody answers the phone and when they do, they have no answers. So we're just out of a refund. Suing the state for lost funds isn't worth it btw
They have harassed us constantly for the last 3-4 years. Do they really not have anyone else to bother? Last year they tried to get an additional $400 from us because they were too lazy to look at the return in its entirety. My tax preparer found the error and we submitted an ammendment and finally received a small refund we had multiple states and one was a typo for the incorrect state. It took MONTHS and we continued to get harassed even tho THEY were the ones dragging their feet. We are due a refund this year and they are the ONLY state that EVER gives us a hard time and holds our money hostage for a 'review'. Maybe we should do like they do and charge them interest and fees foer the money they refuse to give us! I will also add that everyone I have called they answer the phone with an attitude. I realize they probably get nasty people calling daily but they should at least attempt to be nice initially.
You cannot get thru to anyone! I sent electronic payment for 2021 taxes in February 2022. They still have not pulled the money from my account and today is May 4, 2022. I have tried to reach them multiple times and cannot get through. My son, got a letter in the mail stating he did not pay his taxes for 2020 and had also did the electronic payment. They have the nerve to charge him penalties along with a balance for unpaid taxes. Obviously their Eft payment system does not work and they must not have any employees to take calls!!! LA REVENUE DEPT IS A SCAM!!!! I guess it’s time to put together a class action law suit against the LA DEPT OF REVENUE!!!
Wish I could give them less than 1 star... I am having the same issues as the people below. Apparently I owe them $3,000 from 2019.... I did not move to the state until 2020? Not sure what documents they think they have showing I owe them money. I have called and was told to provide proof.... WHICH I DID.... Letters stopped coming for a few months and now they are threatening to freeze my bank accounts.... WHAT A JOKE
Got a $789 letter in the mail when I don't even live in Louisiana. Been in Germany for the past 3 years on active duty orders with South Carolina as my state taxes. What a joke.
Unfortunately, you cannot give them less than one star. My experience with the state of LA since moving here has been nothing short of awful. In fact, I would go as far as to say what they have done to me is bordering on criminal. They have applied a "estimated tax" to my account for a year prior to me ever living or working in the state. They have collected all my state and federal refunds for the last 5 years. Impossible to get fixed and the employees are absolutely rude. To date, they have stolen ~$18k. Disgusted to say the least.
I lived in Louisiana for six months in 2020. I get a notification from the Louisiana dept of revenue that I owe 6k in state taxes for 2019. I didn’t work or live there in 2019. They have my 2020 w2 but none for 2019. Because I didn’t live there! So now I have to prove to them that I didn’t live there. What a scam! They threaten to freeze my accounts if I don’t pay. Don’t ever work in that state. They are trying to rip people off when they know good and well you didn’t work there. I asked them to prove I did live and work there in 2019. Crickets. SCAM!
