Story

Since being founded in 1978, the River Ridge School of Music & Dance has offered music lessons and dance classes to thousands of families in Jefferson Parish and the surrounding cities of Harahan, Metairie, Kenner, River Ridge, and New Orleans.

The River Ridge School of Music & Dance is a division of the Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts - the largest private music and dance school in Harahan, Kenner, Metairie, River Ridge, and New Orleans with an active enrollment of over 1,100 students in three locations. Students drive from as far away as the state of Mississippi and the Westbank of Louisiana to take lessons here. We offer music lessons for piano, guitar, bass, voice, drums, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, violin, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, flute, clarinet, composition, preschool music, and more. We offer dance classes in ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap, parent and tot, musical theatre.

We are also the only school in the area that has installed $10,000 worth of iPads and accessories in each teaching room to give you the BEST music and dance lesson experience that no one else can offer.

We have over 50 faculty members on staff at Laapa. Our music faculty all hold a Bachelor of Music degree or higher and our dance faculty hold either a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or have equivalent professional experience. Our faculty members enjoy teaching students at all levels from beginning through advanced. We teach the songs, styles, and steps students are interested in learning! From classical, to rock/pop, jazz, blues, hip-hop, funk, christian, and more. Our teachers are dedicated to learning about your personal goals and helping you to achieve them in a manner that is FUN and ENJOYABLE. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching!

Originally founded in 1978, the Academy is now in its 37th year of providing students of all ages with a lifetime appreciation for music, dance, and the performing arts here in the Greater NOLA area. Every year, new studios open only to close a few years later.
