Story

Rolla Senior High School in Rolla, Missouri has a population of about 1050 students. The school's mascot is the Bulldog with the colors of maroon and silver (formerly maroon, gray, and gold). The high school offers many clubs, including Student Council (StuCo) as part of Missouri Associations of Student Councils, Key Club, Octagon Club, DECA, FFA, FCCLA, Chess Club, Improvisation Club, Spanish Club, German Club, French Club, Latin Club, and the new addition Link Crew and HOSA Future Health Professionals. There are two student publications at RHS: The Growler yearbook and The Echo newspaper.HistoryAmong the high school's predecessor buildings was the Rolla Building that opened in 1871. It was shared with the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in its first year of existence. The college bought the building for $25,000 in 1875 and it remains in use as the school's mathematics library after being extensively renovated. The present school dates to 1921. In 1989 an addition was made to the high school which nearly doubled its classrooms. For the most part the hard sciences remain in the older portions of the building and other subjects are dispersed in between halls.During the 2006–2007 school year, the parking lot was expanded to accommodate the growing number of commuting students with their own vehicles. The extra room was created by tearing down a nearby house. The high school started the 2008–2009 year with a new principal, Mr. Nathan Hoven, after the previous principal Dr. Roger Berkbuegler retired after 28 years as the principal of Rolla Senior High School.

Whilst I had no problem with the staff or had any hardships in any of my classes that my teachers couldn't help me with, I do have a problem with the school. The problem being too much funding went too the foot ball team while other teams such as wrestling seemed to get the short end of the stick, along with the art club and the drama department. I understand that football scholarships are viable ways to get students into college and that revenue from football games are good ways for the school to make ends meet and push forward other programs, but if you don't put money into the other programs or new technology and updated books, how can one run a school for its primary function? Aside from donations and taxes. Though all in all I found my time at Rolla High School enjoyable and educational.

I've been to multiple schools, and out of all, I favor Rolla High School most. The curriculum is tight and very well planned. The students are competitive, and overall amazing.

Horrible. A few of the teachers were OK. Intolerant, a lot of favoritism. Absolutely no patience in classrooms. Students had more control over class than teachers. Narcissistic.

I think you would count yourself thankful to go to a public school that has so many memorable people on the teaching staff. I believe some of the people that directed my development prepared me well for my life ahead.
