Roseman University of Health Sciences

About

We Aspire: Transforming Education, Advancing Care, Touching Lives.

Story

Roseman University of Health Sciences began with the idea from founder Dr. Harry Rosenberg that pharmacy education should and could be better, more effective, and capable of producing highly competent graduates, who would be sought after by employers regardless of the job market. His belief in this idea was so strong that he moved from California to Nevada in 1999, and with $15,000 rented a 900-square-foot office in Henderson to begin what was originally called the Nevada College of Pharmacy (NCP). It would soon become one of the most innovative, creative, and cost-effective pharmacy schools in the nation.

Mission

Roseman University of Health Sciences is a leader in transforming health care education with an uncompromising commitment to provide individuals the freedom to learn and grow in a collaborative and supportive environment that fosters success.

I am currently in the ABSN program at the South Jordan Campus. I am posting this comment here because this is where I looked for reviews and got incredibly nervous about my choice. I do want to mention a lot of the staff are the same people for both campuses. I'll start saying I got my Bachelor's Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry with a 3.33 GPA (I know I know). I took the TEAS and got an 84% without much studying. I have worked as a chiropractic assistant, medical transcriptionist, research assistant, and a CNA. Since it is the newer campus they didn't do a wonderful job changing information to the South Jordan Campus (when I got packets it would say the address of the school was in Henderson, etc.), but I always have gotten the correct information. The financial aid to begin with was confusing. I wanted a straight answer of how much money I needed to get approved for as a loan and it took me many many emails back and forth with financial aid to finally get an answer I felt confident in with enough to get loans. Don't stop if you feel you still have questions. Remember it is their job to help you! The program is EXPENSIVE. I don't know why, but I hope it's worth it. The computer I had to get from the program is okay. I feel like I was ripped off to put it blatantly. You HAVE to have their computer. The LCD on my screen actually cracked in the first month I had the computer. Dell sent a guy out to my house today to fix it and it was covered in the 2 year warranty you pay for. I am now through Block 2. I have passed with flying colors (96% and 100% individually each block). There is so much material there to help you if you don't feel like you understand. A lot of stuff was the same stuff over and over, but I did feel like it helped me understand and remember things that I'm not good at. To be fair though we were also told it doesn't get too bad until Block 5, so I will update as necessary. The books are just like any other books in college. You can use them or not. SOME material on the test is directly from the book, nothing else. So there is a reason to get them.I have bought my books substantially cheaper online. The teachers have been helpful! The first block teacher got back to all of my questions while I was studying. I would sit and study and write out questions. I would have the answers back AT LEAST by the next day. The next block I wasn't so worried about asking questions, but when I did they were answered. Every teacher so far has done a Live Review session, which is where I have gotten my clarification for what I need to know for the test. It helps you zero in on what details are important and those concepts that aren't so important. Unfortunately the review is only a day before the test, so you can't only study around the live review. It is helpful though to feel at ease and reminds me of things from the beginning of the block I might have forgotten we went over. My advice would be to not commit to other things while in school. Be prepared to put everything aside for this school. There isn't usually stuff to do on the weekends, but studying. I also want to clarify the test process because I know for some it seems confusing. You go in at 8 that morning and take the individual test. Then you break off into groups and take the group test. After each group is done you then look at the answers to the questions. Then you get your textbooks, notes, any paper for evidence of why questions were bad and you write out your claims to throw out or accept other answers as correct on questions. There has always been at least 1 question that is thrown out/another answer is added as correct. Nobody in my current class has remediated, but you have to get a 90% by yourself and then you can challenge questions. With the group test get above 90% you get 5% added back to your individual test (since it's been 60 question tests so far 3 points). So you have to get 85% by yourself if you pass as a group. I think that's most of it. I hope this helps. If you have questions let me know!

ASBN Nursing Accelerated BSN Program (16 months): The Truth. There are no lectures, just tests. They tell you to buy a ton of books, give you slides with audio in place of lectures (and some of them are pretty bad where the speaker doesn't speak English well or is reading from a book). Pros: They have a "block" system which is fast paced, and you only have to go on campus roughly 25% of the time for tests, labs, or reviews a couple of days before the test. Most courses work like this: you get a 50 page syllabus and are told to read 25-30 chapters (essentially like 2 text books in total) and the tests really don't stick to what the syllabus says they are testing on. This creates students to have test anxiety and not know what to study until 2 days before the test; which they cram and have to pass with a 90%. Pro: they say you need 90% on exams, but you get a couple of chances to retake it (also you get group exams that give you 3-4 percentage boosts when you take the group tests. Pro: some of the instructors are great, but some are absolute garbage--hit or miss. Pro: It's a decent price, and the facilities are decent, but the financial aid people never give you straight answers--it's about $65K for the whole program. Don't get caught up in the confusing price sheets they give you. Cons: the Clinical rotations schedules are always late, and the Clinical Department that arranges the schedule is constantly loosing your paperwork for immunizations and physicals. Don't think they are considerate with your time as you literally find out 7-10 days prior to having to work 12 hour shifts at hospitals across town. The recruiters are absolute and complete liars. They get paid to get you to enroll so they will lie and say anything to get you to attend. They say this program is manageable for people who work--no way unless you have a flexible schedule at the last minute. Second BIG CON: you do not receive grades!!! When you graduate good luck getting into an NP program with transcripts that say Pass/Fail; they claim to give you a letter to compensate for that, but some grad schools will not accept it. Hit or miss is the labs there too; sometimes they teach practices that you find out are never used or out of date. Another big CON: bragging about the NCLEX pass rates is a complete fraud, as they won't let you graduate to take the NCLEX unless you pass the ATI exam with 90%. That ensures their numbers are high. The support system there is an absolute joke too; they lock their doors to the instructors offices and it's a "CLOSED DOOR" program. They act like students have plague. Good program if you can read from books and learn yourself.
