We visited the lovely Desert Museum in Barstow and were encouraged to bring our kids to the Route 66 Museum. Everyone was excited as we entered but we were greeted at the door by 2 very sour faced gentlemen who promptly told us that the museum is not meant for children and we needed to make sure they didn't touch anything. Then they proceeded to have a conversation about why anyone would bring kids to a museum like this. I never saw a sign saying no kids allowed but we did not stay long. The area outside the museum is lovely with a great railroad museum and a historic rail yard.

Very interesting and filled with cool things like a marquee from an old diner, two vintage collection cars, arcade games, an old motorcycle, a ton of photos, and many others. If you're lucky, the owners might be around to tell you stories form when they actually used some of them (like the car).

Lots of good stuff about the Mother Road, Historic US Route 66. Plus the vintage Harvey House on the track side of the building with a NASA Deep Space Network exhibit on the second floor.

The Harvey House was very interesting! Lots of history and lots of railroad artifacts! Really enjoyed it and the guard knew a lot!
