Rowan University Art Gallery serves as a premier cultural destination for South Jersey, the Rowan community, and surrounding region. Our mission is to provide a platform for discourse on best practices in contemporary art by professional artists, curators, and scholars through the presentation of interdisciplinary art exhibitions, panel discussions, guest curatorial projects, and other public programming.
Only 30 minutes from Philadelphia, and 40 miles from the shore, Rowan University is the largest university in South Jersey serving 15,000 students and over 3,000 staff and faculty. We are committed to cultivating an inclusive environment that encourages a dialogue between exhibiting artists, students, faculty, the general public, and other cultural institutions. Our programming is developed in collaboration with other academic areas including: engineering, sociology, anthropology, history, education, environmental studies, engineering, social justice, performing arts, and women’s gender studies programs.
Located in the downtown area of Glassboro, our 301 High Street Gallery location provides a valuable educational experience that expands beyond student engagement and functions as a resource for contemporary art for the Glassboro community. Programming has included many group and solo exhibitions by internationally recognized artists such as: Mel Chin, Willie Cole, Jeanne Jaffe, Joyce Kozloff, Tom Nussbaum, Beverly Semmes, Dread Scott, Jackie Tileston, and other notable artists. Gallery West, located in Westby Hall in the center of campus, primarily focuses on exhibitions from our permanent collection of historical works by feminist artists from the 70’s and 80’s.
Rowan University Art Gallery has been the recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Citation of Excellence. In 2015, Rowan University Art Gallery received a National Endowment for the Arts, Artworks grant, the first ever for the university.
