I am an outdoor junkie. Like a "crack head" I'm an "outdoor Jesus freak head..." Please don't freak out at the reference...it's all in fun. If you do happen to be an addict of any kind I know a God who can set you free from such things. In any case, I digress; this had about 16 miles of mountain bike trails. What I find unique about this reserve is the fact you can mix and match trail runs. There are approximately 14 or more loops. In theory, one could ride any combination of the loops for variety of scenery and length. It's enough of a variance that it would take a while for boredom to sink in. I will say that riding the trail in mud is treacherous. The trail gets slick and your tires and detailers cake up with the stuff. If it's too muddy it's not even worth riding unless you're a glutton for punishment. I am speaking from personal experience so it's just a heads up. When I ride or run it, It's usually pretty light with traffic. But I go after I drop my kiddos off at school and before work and that's around 7:30-8. Most folks are not on the trail at that time during the week. I have ridden up to two hours at a time and that's not enough fine to ride ALL the trails. You can't ride super fast as it's too twisty and filled with various hazards. Even when dry going all out it takes a while too hit all the trails. There's also side trails as well so that lengthens it when more. Point is, you'll have a lot to ride of you vary it up. I have a true Specialized mountain bike with shocks so it helps in the areas where it is hairy. I feel any mountain bike can handle most of this trail but there are some areas where only a true mountain bike can go the distance. Running on the trail is great too. Since the loops have varying distances you can decide how far you want to run. I don't run more than 6 miles at a time so trails 1-4/5 are plenty. It's a great little gem in the middle of the burbs. Have a blast if this is your thing.

I'm from the country, so when I visit here, I feel right at home! It's a wonderful place to get a good bike ride in....or if you want to get away from the concrete of the city!

Great trail for mountain biking! There are trails for all levels. The preserve has many interesting features. If you like challenging, don't miss the whoop-dee-doos off trail 10!

Although officially a DORBA spot popular typically among outdoor bicyclists, my German Shepherd, Alice, and I absolutely love these hiking trails! Word to the wise, definitely check the detailed maps at the trailhead in the parking lot. The color-coordinated loops all vary in difficulty, length/duration & elevation gain. If you're new to Rowlett Creek Preserve as a pedestrian like we were, check it out! A word to the wise: it's customary that bicyclists ride -clockwise- along the trails & hikers walk -counterclockwise-. Making a point to share this fact as recently when walking up there I see pedestrians walking the wrong way, which may not *seem* like a big deal, but neither the bicyclists nor you want to be caught off guard when a bike flies, whizzing around a corner & running the unsuspecting hiker over from behind. Yes, it happens! Even at this trail we've seen it once. Thankfully everyone was OK, but these trails are heavily trafficked after & before work hours, more so especially on Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

This place is awesome. Me and my grampa ride the DORBA trails and they are the best. I would recommend mountain bike riding here.
