My wife and I had rented a townhouse from Royal York for a period of 5-years.  When we originally rented the place, we were working with Mr. Libritore' who started the business.  Unfortunately, due to his age, his daughter, Maria has taken over running the business.

When we signed our lease, they were still finishing building the house.  We paid for the lease starting Sept 1st, but weren't able to actually move in until the 15th, and were told that we'd get the 2-weeks credit at the end of our lease when we finished.  We also paid for, out-of-pocket, a new front storm door, garage door opener, chandalier in the master bedroom, chair rails in the kitchen, electric lines to the laundry and kitchen for electric appliances and a concrete pad in the backyard for a shed foundation.

Due to a family emergency last year, we had no choice but to make a move to NC on short notice which happened to be about a month after renewing our lease.  We spoke with the people in the rental office about the situation and they told us as long as we were able to find a replacement tenant, we would be ok.

Well, we cleaned up the place, found a new tenant (after they stopped advertising for tenants for the winter so they would not have had a tenant for 6 or more months otherwise) and left all of the upgrades in the house.  The tenant we found to replace us moved in within 2 weeks of our moving out.

As of today, we were served papers notifying us of a judgment against us for $5,000+ for breaking the lease, legal fees and for "cleanup" over and above our $1200 security deposit we had left behind.

Do not believe the people working for this company, and certianly not Maria who runs the operation.  They will say one thing to your face and try to take advantage of every situation you give them the chance to.  Find a better company to pay your hard-earned dollars to if you are looking for somewhere for you and your family to live.
