Story

Ruby's Diner first opened on December 7, 1982 in a converted bait shop at the end of the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, California. The diner was named after the mother of founder Doug Cavanaugh, Ruby, and the icon Ruby Girl logo was derived from her high school Cheerleading photo.
Ruby’s Diners are aesthetically designed after American Diners of the Swing Era. While basic decor remains the same for every Ruby's Diner, creative touches are added to many Ruby’s Diners by developing modified themes to fit the local area.
Ruby’s Diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu that includes classic American Diner fare of hamburgers, french fries, chili, shakes and malts along with soups, salads and sandwiches. Ruby's Diner operates 35 locations in Southern California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; along with airport locations in Houston and Las Vegas.

Shot on help, manager jumped in to help. So, front end was a stand and wait. Order was given wrong, asked two to three times and still did not get fries. Shakes came after dinner! Onion rings burnt!! And when tried to brake saw the peel still attached!! Waiter was seen only 3 times- take order,delivered water,then check. I had fish and chips. Was good BUT middle of 4 pieces dough!!

Slow service in the evening around 9pm. Seems like the management intentionally short staffed the restaurant. The poor servers looked a bit harried. The milkshake was good. I also had an apple pie a la mode which was tasty. Unfortunately, they dumped an excessive amount of cinnamon on it.

really slow took 35 mins to make a milkshake! never going again! Never got the milkshake by the way

The food is above average for a chain restaurant. Not outstanding but better than average because is clean and decent quality. I miss the featured waitresses, never the same after greedy people ruined for all; still love the setting and concepts.

I thought this place was great for kids and for a cheap and quick meal. This place does not serve the best quality food; however it is decent enough. I had a Chicken Caesar Salad, which was pretty good, except for what seemed like microwaved chicken. Otherwise, the salad was a good choice. A child diner will love this place for the classic diner feel, many kids choices, and a cardboard car to keep himself busy. An ice skating rink is located next to the diner, so if you are coming from skating, this is a good choice. Again, this is not my choice of a restaurant when I want to eat out, but it is perfect for a quick, easy, and cheap meal.
