Really cool split nightclub/lounge with awesome vibe and presentation. Staff is very friendly and on top of cleanup. As a former bartender I must say that your drinks need work though. The long island tasted anything but... and sweetened lime juice syrup is not a margarita ingredient. I'll keep trying, I enjoy dancing here!
I have enjoyed Rumors in the past but I have to leave a comment now because I no longer feel that it is a safe and inclusive place. Twice now I have been kicked out of Rumors for "dancing which makes me seem too drunk" or something like this. The first time I literally had one sip of my cocktail and the second time I had had two tequila shots. In neither case was I belligerently drunk, stumbling, shouting, etc. In both cases I was dancing freely, using my whole body, which is the way I dance. I wasn't bumping into other people, I was dancing with friends who know me and who were comfortable with my dance style... I don't grind against a partner, or stand and move my feet to the beat, I dance exuberantly. And this has become a problem for Rumors in the past 4-5 years it seems. I know that I danced like this in the years before that and was never kicked out but now this kind of dance policing seems to be the M.O. at Rumors. There are no breathalyzers given, there is no hard proof that I have been over served. It honestly makes me feel very targeted. I feel like Rumors isn't a place where a person can be themselves, much as it seems to want to be that place. I hope the management will think about this practice and consider whether it is actually marginalizing people. Perhaps, if they still stand by this policy, they can put a sign on the door which says "no wild dancing allowed", or something. I can't see myself coming back as I don't think I can suddenly become a more "conventional" dancer. It's weird. I hope they can do better.
Fun time had by all! Drinks were good and bar keeper was fast and friendly.
We went to a really fun drag show on Sunday night. The show has no cover, the drinks are good and cheap though I'm used to Boston pricing and the queens put on a great show! I would come again
I like the way it sounds and feels in there but sometimes the music would switch too fast or it would have a tune progression that was awkward. On other nights they will play full songs, definitely reccomend checking it out if you're queer. There are men in suits watching us from the corners every time but what do you expect from a bumping gay bar. We're hot.
I have lived in Bellingham my whole life and rumors has always had a good reputation. However, the other night I have become aware that it has changed. The employee at the door openly mocked my friends and I for asking why they were requiring facial identifications. The other employee, who may have actually been the owner, spoke to us briefly about it then walked away. I have never been treated so poorly at any establishment. They made me feel like I am unwelcome in my own home. They do not deserve to be in business. Do not go there.
This place used to be great but it’s not anymore. They claim inclusivity and acceptance but they don’t practice it. Furthermore, they were extremely both dismissive and aggressive towards me and a friend earlier tonight and would not give the reason for kicking a friend out, and the manager literally ran away when we asked for the reason. It was extremely prejudiced and goes against the morals and foundations they say their institution is built on. I expected a lot better from them, hopefully they get it together.
Always a great experience here. Lovely staff, big dance floor, kind and inclusive. One and only complaint: the photo booth is too small.
Had a really unfortunate time at rumors just now. A friend of mine turned 21 today and we decided we should go get our first drink together here with a group. After about 5-10 minutes on the dance floor with literally our first drink in our hands a bouncer comes up to us and tells us we are kicked out for “being too intoxicated.” We tried to explain to them that this is the first place we’ve come tonight and that our friend is turning 21 so maybe we’ve been acting excited but we are all still not drunk, but they completely ignored us and started forcing us out. For a place that is marketed as being inclusive and friendly I was highly disappointed on how they completed refused to talk to us and started ushering us out without any conversation. *EDIT* Well I had a good chat with the owner and understand their viewpoint more. If they believe there is any behavior that shows someone acting “intoxicated” it is within their best interest to temporarily remove them from the premises, lest they lose their liquor license. I understand that there will be discrepancies and customers will disagree with staff at times, however I respect the owner for reaching out to us and assuring me they were taking steps to make sure everyone was included and acknowledged. I will definitely give them another chance!
Yeah so sad when they throw you out without telling you why . The bigger problem is they throw you without telling your date or your friends or they throw you out without your debit card or your coat. But...you'll be back next week be et thrown out and separated from new friends and new dates after spending more money then you will realize that it's you they don't like .... so stop wasting your money and time here .
