I only had a bottle of ginger beer and a fried dough ball. On a 95-degree afternoon, the drink really hit the spot and the dough ball, whatever its ingredients, was surprisingly and incredibly delicious. And it was only 50 cents! The young man behind the counter was very pleasant and helpful. BTW, this was right after I had two decent tacos just next door, but the service was not particularly friendly.
I tried the curry goat meal here before and I thought it tasted bland. Now, I finally had the courage to take pic of my affordable $8 meal. Jamaican Jerk Pork with white rice and Callaloo leaves which is a delightful vegetable. At first I was afraid to taste it. I was looking forward to getting a cabbage stir fry but they were out of it. So far it’s good and the pork meat is tender. Will go back again to try a different dish.
I ordered the curry chicken & my husband ordered the stew chicken. I wanted to give this place a 5 stars so badly. I think I naturally root for the smaller businesses- & my curry chicken almost got it there, but my husband's stew chicken was a little too greasy, I'm hoping it was just an off day. The cabbage & rice taste more authentic than the chain Jamaican spots- it tastes like someone cooked my meal in their kitchen with love! & the beef patties were just right. I'll definitely be stopping here again to try the oxtails.
Great place to get Jamaican food. I had oxtails and pork jerk meals. Both were delicious and portion were big. Dishes came with rice and beans, vegetables and plantains. I will definitely return to get more food.
Definitely a solid Jamaican spot. Seems like 2 sisters own the store and you could tell they been cooking forever. Would return. Pros: -Solid selection -very fair prices -pack the plates heavy -rum cake Cons: -not sure if it was a one time thing but we waited 20 minutes before anyone walked out to take our order. We ordered $80 worth of food, ox tails didn’t come with my order, chicken stew was dry, the fish platter looked so gross it went straight to the garbage. Very disappointed
PIG TAIL in the Red Pea Soup, gross Jerk Chicken... NOT, its baked chicken covered in cheap BBQ sauce only edible item was the festival. SMH very underwhelming
Ms Ruth is family owned and they treat you like family. The service is attentive. I enjoy the food and the vibe. On any day you could walk away with a good laugh. I appreciate the way my meal is handled and packed. Today I am not well, called ahead for some soup - guaranteed it will be hot, hearty and will hit the spot.
authentic Jamaican cuisine If you’re looking to get full satisfied and still crave more this is the place to be
Every time I’m up in New York visiting family I stop here. My wife loves their curry goat, and I love the ackee and salt fish, yummy to my tummy!! Oh their oxtails fantastic too!! Can’t find food like this in a Texas
