So I’m going to tell you about an unusual adventure I had a few evenings ago. I decided to check another restaurant off the ever growing google maps list. I’ve been trying to hit up the Saffron Cafe but my schedule never really matched up to when they were open. I headed there and was excited to try out the Moroccan food. I found a place to park paid parking behind the restaurant. I went inside and a voice called out from the kitchen to sit wherever I liked. There was only one other table inside and one on the patio so I chose a round table. Thought that would be able to accommodate the food I’d order. After I was seated the waitress came out and asked if there was “just one?” Let me just say please don’t say this to someone who is dining alone. It doesn’t bother me but it takes a lot of courage for some people to eat by themselves. This makes them feel bad. I read an article a few years ago about it and I’ve never said “just one” again. After she handed me the menu a gentleman came into the restaurant. He sat down at a table nearby so I invited him to join me. Surprisingly he came over and sat down. We ordered and I chose the saffron mussels appetizer and the lamb tangine. My “date” ordered Chef Sentissi’s Traditional Lamb M’Rosia and a house salad. My mussels showed up and I offered to share. The waitress brought out a small appetizer plate. There was One pound of fresh steamed mussels prepared in a rich & creamy saffron sauce with garlic & sweet basil served with warm bread for dipping. They had a sort of sweet flavor but delicious none the less. Our meal showed up shortly after. I was excited to try a tangine. The one I picked had lamb leg, peas and artichoke hearts in a rich saffron, garlic, and ginger sauce garnished with pickled lemon. Honestly I was a little underwhelmed. Lamb was tender. Sauce was lacking flavor. It was expecting it to be super flavorful. I shared with my guest. His entree was enormous and he let me taste it too. The couscous and vegetables were very good but the star was the leg of lamb. Here is the description from the menu: A 16 ounce bone-in New Zealand lamb shank slow-roasted for 5 hours in a rich & hearty vegetable purée sauce of onions, potatoes, carrots & garlic prepared with the sweet flavors of honey, nutmeg, & cinnamon along with the deeper flavors of ginger & clove - all balanced with lots of saffron & just a touch of cayenne... Sweet & spicy perfection! It was a touch spicy but overall had an amazing flavor. I was jealous I didn’t order it! We ate and had some awesome conversations about traveling and food. I tried something out to my comfort zone and it turned out to be great. I learned so much about someone new and enjoyed myself. Can’t wait to do it again soon. Try something new and invite a stranger to join you for a meal. I’ll be back to try something else on the menu. I want to get a dish that floors me. Until my next meal…grab your forks and get out and eat and let me know where.
Oh, my!! What a special treat this was!! The atmosphere was so calm and inviting, the service was personable, dignified, and attentive, and the food was extraordinary! Our party of three each ordered different lunch meals, and not one of those us was disappointed. The soup was uniquely delicious, and the antipasto appetizer platter had us craving more! Their pita pieces were so soft and flavorful, and the different meats were a real flavor delight! Definitely a restaurant worth finding!
I went there with a big group of family and friends. We were excited to try the Moroccan food. I ordered couscous with vegetables and braised chicken. The food took sometime to make it to the table, and then the waiter started bringing it. The couscous and the vegetables were very flavorful and delicious, but the chicken was grilled not braised as described in the menu, and there were only 3 small cubes of grilled chicken on the plate!!! I was a little disappointed in this! My wife got the basil coconut pasta with shrimp, which also came with 3 shrimps and it was overly sweet!!! The decor is nice and authentic, but the food experience was not 100% authentic or impressive! Coming to the prices, I think they are overpriced about $23 for some 3 cubes of grilled chicken and some couscous with vegetables and we had a 20% gratuity added to our ticket!
Hearty portions and delicious food! FOOD I ordered the Tanjine Lamberel as my entree and it was delicious. It is a stew and the meat was so incredibly tender that it melted in my mouth. It paired with a bread, likely a sliced baguette. I also ordered the Moroccan coffee, which came with refills. We also split a Bastilla appetizer which was like a sweet and savory pastry. The portions were generous! SERVICE Waitress was attentative, but service was a bit on the slower side. I figure the reason was to allow us to enjoy our time talking. MOOD Intimate and dimly lit. Noise was moderate. Features: Mask not required. Outdoor seating available.
We have been to Saffron twice and both times it’s been a nice experience. The cafe showcases its culture in its service, food and the ambiance. The service is always good here. Falafel and tzatziki is delicious. We ordered Couscous royale for the main and was good too. I made the mistake of adding little too much of vegetable broth to my couscous which made it bitter, so don’t make that mistake. Baklava is very delicious, perfect balance of sweetness, flakiness and nuttiness. Saffron is a great place to have a calm and relaxing meal. Perfect for date nights. It also have options for vegetarians, which is what I look for. Highly recommend it.
I liked the decor very much. Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable about the menu. She helped us select some of our dishes. The falafel was a little dry, but tasted good. My Zaalouk was tasty, but I should have asked for a spicier version of it. My wife said her Tajine Lambarel was juicy and soft, though she too mentioned it needed some more spice in it. The highlight was definitely the baklava, which was perfect. We would surely be back to try some different dishes. 5 stars for the service and decor, 4 for the food.
Went there for our anniversary dinner and it was great. The tajines are excellent and huge portions, as well as the chocolate mascarpone cake we had for dessert.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: Yes
Top Notch preparation!! Very polite staff... Saffron introduced me to the amazing flavours of Moroccan cuisine. The dish was very well made with an awesome blend of flavoured oil, herbs and spices..... I felt it was a mix of Arabic and Mediterranean food....
I love trying cuisines of different countries and this place is one of the best experiences I had in the US without actually flying abroad. The owner is super friendly and the place itself is just beautiful inside. Very cozy and homey. You must try one of their Tajines or couscous dishes. And baklava with some tea. Absolutely fantastic food. Finding parking wasn’t a problem and prices were slightly above average but it’s totally worth it. Would come back and recommend to friends.
Good food. Opens at 4pm and that's when we arrived. Great service. Tried specialty drinks, appetizers, kababs and dessert. All good stuff. Alan has the fish kabab which looked delicious though he didn't offer a bite.
