Story

Saginaw County Animal Care Center is an open admission shelter. We house up to 30 cats and over 90 dogs. All animals are seen by the vet upon intake if a visible health problem is observed. If any arise after the animal is at the shelter they are taken to the vet. We work with various rescues and Humane Societies to give animals new possibilities of finding a furrever home. We run a volunteer program and are always looking for new volunteers.

Hours of Operation are:
Monday - 11:00-6:00 pm w/ adoption hours from 11:00-5:30
Tuesday - 11:00-6:00 pm w/ adoption hours from 11:00-5:30
Wednesday -11:00-6:00 pm w/ adoption hours from 11:00-5:30
Thursday - 11:00-6:00 pm w/ adoption hours from 11:00-5:30
Friday-- 11:00-5:30 pm w/ adoption hours from 11:00-5:00

Cat Adoption Fee is $90. The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, FIV/FeLV test, and rabies vaccine. Cats receive a FVRCP vaccine, deworming, flea medicine, and a general wellness check.

Dog Adoption Fee is $125. The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, heartworm check, and rabies vaccine. Dogs receive a DHPP vaccine, Bordatella vaccine, deworming, flea medication, general wellness check, and microchip.

**Any animal too young or with a health condition that does not allow for spay/neuter at that time will require a $100 refundable deposit upon proof of the surgery.

Dogs are temperament tested before going into the adoption program.
Meet and greets are needed if you already own a dog and up to date licenses and rabies need to be shown.

**Special adoption rates are run throughout the year and are announced at those times.

I'm glad that they do temperament testing, but I'm not exactly the most thrilled with their policy. I feel that spaying and neutering is important, but you can't leave the facility with the animal you have chosen until it is spayed or neutered. It can take a week or more for that to happen. After surgery you pick the animal up and take it home for the first time, which to me seems to be a whole lot of extra stress for the animal and the adopter. Plus taking a new dog to a home with children for the first time, fresh out of surgery, it's just hard. This process also is frustrating for out of county adopters.

I have worked with SCACC to have dogs transported to our facility. They are always professional and wonderful to work with. The dogs they send are ones that do well in our shelter and they give honest and helpful information about each animal. Love SCACC!

I tried to adopt a dog from them today and I had to deal with a very very rude woman over the phone telling me if I didn't like their policy to call down to the county commissioners office and complain to them, after I was politely inquiring as to how I could go about adopting this poor dog that I still would love to have, but am going to be forced to adopt elsewhere due to very unfriendly difficult people working there...I feel so so sad for the poor animals that have to rely on them people.

My roommates went to jail for.dometic violence against me as well as assaulting police officer and other crimes. They expect me as someone on oxygen uses walker To take care of their three dogs and two cats. My choice is to walk almost three miles with each animal one way then back five times.
