Some person in county or state government has decided to make the County Health Department a for-profit Business. They're charging the same for flu shots as Walgreens and Walmart. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't tax payer subsidized goods like the County Health Department provides supposed to be provided at cost? It's not supposed to be a for-profit department of the state or county government. Only in Utah, the most conservative state in the nation would legislators be so concerned about crowding out private business that they screw over the poor by making something like the County Health Department for-profit.

The Salt Lake County Health Department has its uses and benefits. However, their phone service and ease of obtaining information is horrible. I spoke with three different people this morning (one of whom could barely speak or understand English), before being told they couldn't give me information about myself over the phone and I would have to submit a written request in person. Ridiculous. I can obtain information about my mortgage, information from my primary care physician, just about anything. But not from the SL Co Health Department. They are stuck in the dark ages where you have to show up in person. If they weren't a necessary evil, I would never visit again.
