After 4 years here as an engineering student, I would NOT recommend Santa Clara at all as a college, and I feel this place is very overrated and overpriced. My advice would be to stay away from this place unless you have a sizable financial aid package, or otherwise stick with the state colleges or UC's. You are defiantly not getting your money's worth at this place! Even as an engineering student, on top of your engineering course work, you are required to take a ton of extra university core related classes that have no relation to your major, and its nothing but a complete waste of time, money, and course credits. You are required to take 3 religious studies classes, one ethics, one diversity, one social science, 3 cultures & ideas, 2 English writing classes, and an experimental learning for social justice class. I know this may be similar at other schools, but other schools like state colleges take AP credit to pass some of these core requirements. Santa Clara does not let you use AP credit to get out of such classes, except for math and science. Charging $45K+ a year, I think this is just ridiculous to forcing students to have to take all these extra classes leaving no room for any other engineering or science related class that students might be interested. The university core class requirements is just way too much in my opinion as a student. Overall, I deeply regret choosing Santa Clara University as the college to spend my 4 years. Don't believe all this hype about small class sizes, in reality all this is all irrelevant. Small class sizes translates to certain classes you need for you major aren't offered year round if you happen to need them, compared to larger schools, and only during certain quarters. Also the upper management of this place cares more about the 'image' rather than concerns from students. SAVE YOU MONEY AND STAY WITH THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THIS PLACE CHARGES IVY LEAGUE OR STANFORD LEVELS OF TUITION FOR NOT BEING EITHER OF THOSE SCHOOLS.
