Wonderful old growth forest. We came in on the east side, and explored in and around to the north of Hermit’s Peak around the 8,000 ft elevation. In addition, we were treated to the first snow fall of the season on Mon Oct 9th, 2017

Well maintained trails and bathrooms on the Windsor Trail. Took a hike to Lake Katherine. It is easy to loose the trail once you get to the boulder fields, but we were able to find it again easily.

Conveniently close to the heart of Santa Fe, there are many trails for hiking/biking in the summer. Winter has downhill and cross country skiing, as well as hiking and snowshoeing. Camping is available year-round. A little bit of something for everyone. My wife and I take the dog up every weekend, and we have yet to get bored.

Always a nice place to go either for a quick day trip or camping. The only downside is that the popular areas to camp are completely primitive. At the same dumpsters would be nice. Fishing is a hit and miss from one week to the next. Roadways are well kept. Even without the dumpsters all the sites remain clean. A lot of forest thinning as been done so there is no shortage of campfire wood.

It was fun to take a ski lift up and play disc golf. Very challenging course. I would recommend trekking poles if you decide to play.
