An architectural and cultural landmark. The Schindler house has no traditional facade. You can experience the house only by moving through space.
Well I don't doubt the architectural significance of this quite unique house, it seems to be not very well maintained. Additionally, there is very little information on the property, save for a brochure that is available at the admissions counter. I'm glad to have visited, but really don't see much point in returning or even recommending to others to put it on their "must visit" list in LA. Street parking is pretty ample and available either directly in front of or within a block or 2 radius of the house, so don't let that be a deterrent to visiting if you are really interested in seeing this.
A really lovely architectural gem in a residential neighborhood. A unique layout makes for a truly fascinating home with a sensitive relationship to the gardens.
I don’t know why ceiling is so low. Entire space is inspiring, a lot of details you can enjoy. Furniture is beautiful. Outdoor space is quite calming.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$6–10
5 stars if you are into what was cutting edge architecture in the 1930s and also some "interesting" arrangements for couples living together. If NOT into these things, 1 star, as you will be baffled or bored. On the other hand, you can see this in 30 minutes, so it may be worth a try anyway. A real time capsule. Must have been beyond strange back then. This review refers to the Schindler House only, I did not visit any other part of MAK.
This is Rudolf Schindler's house on King Street. It is closed due to an ongoing renovation. The roof seems to be redone, and it illustrates that how low the ceiling is inside the house. Interestingly, we ran into Sandra Ng and Peter Chan on the way out; they probably live just across the street from the King Road House.
Lucky enough to have a docent present for our visit. She was a delight and a wealth of knowledge. A beautiful site and a fascinating house to visit for lovers of modernist/space architecture.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The Schindler house is a cultural treasure. A must visit for any architecture enthusiast. The Genesis of American modernism. An amazing synergy of a primitive campsite and modern home. Genius.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A wonderful example of early Los Angeles experimental architecture, R. M. Schindler's home and studio is a modern, minimal, and heartwarming specimen that is both historic and yet futuristic at once. It's small, but worth the trip for any true lovers of Schindler, Wright, etc. or modernist Organic Architecture. From the tilt slab concrete to the redwood roof surrounded by beautiful courtyards and gardens right in the heart of West Hollywood, this is a place to appreciate the thoughtfulness and creativity exhibited in the tiniest of details, as well as the overall composition. Helpful docents and a cute little book/gift shop.
Amazing architectural experience, a must-see if you are interested in modernist architecture.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$11–15
