Story

Seminole High School is a public coeducational high school located in Seminole, Florida. It is governed by the Pinellas County School District. The school's mascot is "Wally the Warhawk". The student population is approximately 2,200.HistoryPrior to the opening of the school in the late summer of 1962, students in what is now known as the Seminole area attended Largo High School or Dixie Hollins High School. With rapid growth in Seminole in the late 1950s and early 1960s, it became necessary for the newly suburban area to have its own high school. The original school consisted of what is now the main building where the administration offices are located and the front cafeteria. Seminole was the first high school in Pinellas County to be air-conditioned. The current "Warhawk" stadium was built in 1967 after a lengthy fundraising drive (Seminole Pow Wow). The auditorium, gymnasium and band facilities were built in later years. The school underwent a significant expansion in 1977 and an extensive remodeling in 1996. In the fall of 1973, the school utilized double sessions until the opening of Osceola High School in 1981.AthleticsSeminole High School hosts a variety of athletic programs. This place dosent care about people with disabilities.......the teachers try to fail you and say it as your fault.....drug deals are common here, fights happen everyday.....kids bring guns and knives to school....my own teacher who is trained to help help students with disabilities said "sorry i can't help you.....because you are a disability" there are some good teachers but with the history i had here the lack of communication between teachers students and parents. The computers here all have either a missing key problems connecting to the surver or flat out don't work. The graduation, test percentage is below the state god low standards and there are few to no programs for special needs students. Students with disabillities are bullied here so much and sometimes even receive death threats from all other students one i even heard was "retarded kids should be dead" and "they're all freaks and don't even matter" I think they're should be an investigation done on this school for the lack of dealing with the issues at hand and should change their way handling everything. Wouldn't recommend to the parents of students with low autism or any disabillities becuase of the lack of any services and sometimes even abusive teachers.

Walking through these halls is no joy. I came to this school as a senior not knowing what to expect, or what people I would end up meeting. I had transferred here from Clearwater High. Totally will not lie to you and honestly tell you that I personally didn't enjoy every minute of my time here, and a lot of the time dreaded coming here everyday. I hated the fact of how cliquey the school is, and especially for me considering my timing of arriving here. Judgment is a huge issue here. Sad to say, there is very few people who happen to be real that attend this school from my experience. The people are fake. The school, like other Pinellas County Schools, seems to be infested with roaches - you would see a new one everyday in at least one of your classes. At one point, I had seen one drop from the ceiling onto a desk. Other than that everyone is talking about drama, or how terrible this school is, a teacher is, or their day. It is very negative, and I saw it as very unhealthy for everyone. The school smells. Terrible. The lack of individuality is sad. For the cliques and friends, I recommend people outside of Seminole. What made the experience better was that I was lucky enough to come across 7 teachers for whom I appreciate their work and reaching out to share their knowledge, in hopes of making their students better people. For that, I'm incredibly thankful to have had Spurgeon, Schellhause, Santell, Thompson, Norris and Cantrell as my teachers for the duration of this year. My English class was a problem in which my original teacher had left in the September of the beginning of the year and from then we had a few long term subs that lasted a month or two at most. For the duration she was there, I appreciate one of the subs we had (Fann) for devoting her time and patience for making sure her students succeeded. After she had left for a government job, our experience went downhill from there. We would have a new sub assigned for each week who would then leave and we would then have another. We had been doing piles and piles of busy work at that point where the individual in charge of grades would never count it - and at the end of the year all of the students ended up getting an A anyway - regardless of if they even took the time to even have a single concern for completing the work. The school is definitely better than a couple others I have attended as I have moved quite a few times, but I'm sure there's better out there. The decision to place your child into this school is ultimately up to you but I hope you take your time to think in advance.
