About

Federal credit union serving San Luis Obispo County for over 75 years, educating and empowering our members to achieve their financial goals.

Story

Ten San Luis Obispo residents gathered in 1942 to discuss forming a credit union. They wanted to provide a way for people of ordinary means to borrow at reasonable interest rates under thoroughly honest and fair conditions.

On January 8, 1943, thirty-two San Luis Obispo County school employees were present when Superintendent Charles E. Teach called the first official meeting to order. They held the first election and began operations with assets of just $500. Six years later the acronym SESLOC was adopted, which stands for: School Employees of San Luis Obispo County.

While originally for those in education, SESLOC now offers services to everyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties, as well as their families. Today, with over 50,000 members and more than 75 years of service to the community, SESLOC retains its commitment to providing valued financial services and education with honesty and integrity.

Credit union members share a common bond, such as where they work or live. SESLOC serves those who live, work, worship or attend school in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties. Our members are local, so money stays local, and SESLOC stays community focused.

Credit unions are cooperative financial institutions designed to give back to their members, not stockholders. Credit unions are not driven by profit. Credit unions have a volunteer Board of Directors, and profits are returned to members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and lower cost services. The credit union philosophy that people are more important than profits benefits both the credit union members and their community.

Mission

The mission of SESLOC Federal Credit Union is to be the financial institution and employer of choice in our community.

My husband is the one in the family the does all of our banking needs. However, he is on vacation. This morning I got a phone call from my son needing money transferred into his account. Luckily, my husband is very organized and I quickly found all our account numbers. Still, I was extremely nervous about making this phone call because of my lack of experiences with banking matters. To my joy, I got Kathryn on the phone and she was spectacular! I can not adequately put into words how remarkable Kathryn was to me. She took care of all my needs and did so without any judgement. She quickly understood that she had someone on the phone that wasn't confident and she did not hesitate for one second to help ease my nerves. She even gave me excellent advice regarding my other accounts. SESLOC has been our banking partner since the late 1970s. Our family has always depended on their services and have never, ever been disappointed. I am grateful for their wonderful services. A huge THANK YOU to Kathryn!

I have banked with other credit unions in the past and none of them have ever been as slow to deposit my paycheck as sesloc. I got paid on the the 6th and I am still waiting for them to clear my check (its now the end of the day on the 10th). I also had a pending charge on my account that I cancelled and called the bank about, but since sesloc works so slowly I apparently have to wait three business days (four whole days since one falls on Sunday when they're not open) before I can get my $95 back into my account. So I'm basically penniless in my account for the next week while I should have over $300 available. Thank a lot sesloc, just love not being able to have access to my hard earned money. Will probably get a few $28 overdraft fees in the meantime since I have auto pay on my account, what a convenient way for sesloc to rob its customers. Will most certainly be taking my business to any other bank after I get through this mess.

Worst customer service, decent rates on loans if your credit is worthy. They use outdated business protocols, apps and services. Nightmare if you are a progressive business person geared for 2020.

Really good rates on car loans; service in the new location is now all ironed out!
