Seeing the issues my parents have had with the home built by this company, (since the home was built I might add) and knowing people who have had similar problems with homes built by this company, I wouldn't have them build a kit based dog house. For starters their plumbing contractor (Bentley) used piping that was banned for indoor use, causing over 40 major water leaks to date. There is not a single spot in this house that is straight, level, or square (a 20" wall ends up being about 2" left of its starting point). Many of the outlets were not grounded (or not grounded correctly) and as a result they spark and don't always work (meaning you may or may not get light). Several of the rooms are also smaller than they were supposed to be based on the house plans. Large bathroom mirrors were not anchored into screws, so one nearly fell onto me (that happened within days of moving in). The drip tray for the a/c system was too small, and it was adjusted correctly (and bent), causing it to leak onto the ceiling (when the original heat and a/c actually worked). The high pressure switch for the a/c was removed (this product may have also been used but we don't know for sure), nor was the a/c system sealed, meaning crap (like allergens) got into the system. The humidifier on the system was improperly installed, with the control located in the attic instead of the living space. There was also no splitter in the box for the hvac venting system and the return pickups were not located properly. The septic system has a 2" drainage instead of a 3" (which according to the guys who came to pump the septic, is not up to code- the only way to fix it is to rip the slab foundation up). We went to replace windows after an electrical fire (thanks Bentley) and found out they are mobile home windows (not what was ordered), and the same goes for the siding. The original pump for the well was used, and lasted under a year. There was a checklist of things found when the house was nearly done that was never completed (I was younger so I do not know what all was on that list). The jacuzzi tub was also installed incorrectly, not only cracking the ceiling and the tub due to no support (thanks Bentley) but the electrical portion of the tub is not up to code (per several professional plumbers), as it has a rigged up outlet sitting DIRECTLY on the floor under the water pipes and faucets. The wood floor was installed with no barrier between it and the concrete. The wood on the porch should have been redwood- turns out it is untreated pine. The fuse box was labeled improperly, making working on the house and fixing their mess that much more difficult. We knew and trusted the Shaffer family because of the great job they did many years ago on my grandparents home, however it seems as if charging people for the item they ordered then using a much cheaper substitute to bring in more money is how the company works now.
