Story

At Shanghai Bun, we pride ourselves on staying true to an authentic dining experience. We are commited to providing a variety of quality dishes that have become a rarity in local establishments. Over the years, there have been more and more restaurants steering away from a traditional menu to a more 'westernized' availibility. While western adaptations are certainly embraced and catered to, we believe that food is an opportunity to explore — and there is plenty left to discover.

Never had to deal with so unprofessional and rude manager and stuff before. I ordered braised beef soup. Asked a few times if it's spicy. Was assured that it's not spicy. Asked to do not put the sour cabbage in it because I knew it's spicy. Guess what, I got the soup with spicy sour cabbage! I asked manager if I can ordered something else, different soup. He said categorically no, before I pay for this soup. He offered to make same soup again. 1 minute later they brought a new soup. Guess what, it was the same bowl of soup!! They just returned it to me!! What an arrogant owner! At the end of conversation he said I should find a different restaurant!!! And I will.. Never coming back.

Ordered takeout, double sauteed pork and chicken dumplings with spicy peanut sauce. Waited the fifteen minutes they told me and headed over . When I arrived the guy at the counter greeted me. There were three bags of takeout orders sitting behind him. I said I was there to pick up; he said "Oh, just wait a minute." He then proceeded to check out three customers that walked up after me with their bills from eat-in tables, and talk with a server for several minutes. When he finally turned his attention back to me, my order was sitting behind him the whole time. The food was...ok. The "spicy peanut sauce" was bland, the pork was greasy and not memorable at all. Not a terrible dinner, but not recommended either.

Went there with friends for dinner. It's close to the campus and is probably the only Chinese restaurant around here except the ones on Nassau. Very convenient in terms of the location. But the food quality is really low and the owner is very rude. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!!! We ordered the dish lamb with onions among other things. The lamb turned out to be bad already. It tastes like some meat you bought for Thanksgiving, left it in the fridge but forgot it, and heat it again using microwave the following Labor Day without realizing it's been there for almost a year. The lamb served to us is quite stinky and looks like frozen duck breast covered by hard dog poo. Yes, you read it right. In fact, we doubted whether it's lamb or not at first. So we asked the restaurant owner if the cook used the wrong meat. Here is what the owner says, literally: it's indeed lamb, but you know, here in the US, most of the lamb meat is imported. So when it arrives, it's usually been almost a year. It's very reasonable that most of the lamb meat is 'not that fresh'. Every other customer eats it this way. Well, okay, I'm starting to wonder if I actually live in the same country as this business owner. Because based on my experience in the United States, every honest and decent American restaurant owner will only serve FRESH food to his customer. If the food is already been frozen for 'almost a year', is 'not that fresh', and you know it already, then perhaps you shouldn't serve it to your customers! I'm a lamb meat lover and I've ordered it in many many restaurants in the US, east coast and west coast, LA and NY, Chinese style and Mediterranean style. But I never found any restaurant that serves bad meat before, and I always assumed that it's part of what we call professionalism for restaurants. This place has entirely changed my worldview. Will never go to this place again. PS: To fellow Princeton students, go eat on Nassau, avoid this place at all costs. To fellow Chinese food lovers, drive to New Brunswick, Edison or even Philadelphia. Do not eat here. It's simply not worth it for your health.

Delectable food. Chinese with an authentic, subtle twist. Low prices and amazing service. My favorite Chinese place ever!
