The Shanghai Restaurant, established in 1971 . Ottawa Chinatown’s first pioneering Chinese restaurant. A family owned and operated business serving great homemade Asian inspired fair in an eclectic dining atmosphere.
"The Shang" as its affectionately called by friends, has found a niche bringing together the business and arts communities. Over the years, Shanghai has been host to countless community events, fundraisers and local charities such as China China Doll KARAOKE Saturdays, Bingo, Spelling Bees, Comedy Nights, Comic Jam, and more. A long time supporter of the arts, Shanghai regularly exhibits artwork by local and sometimes not so local artists.
The restaurant has become an unofficial hub for foodies, artists, musicians and performers alike, providing a nurturing contemporary space that strives to includes all members of our community.
