Love their pork soup buns and fried dumplings. Pretty much everything we order is delicious. Friendly staff and all local diners. They have a couple of parking spots behind the restaurant as well.Food: 5/5
A no frills Chinese soup dumpling restaurant. Menu size and prices hint that it should be one of the better soup dumpling restaurants, but experience screams budget. Ordered standard pork soup dumpling, Pan fried dumplings, Shanghai lo-mein, these are standard items available at all soup dumpling restaurants. Pork soup dumpling was disappointment. The filling was loose and offered no bite texture to complement the wrapper. Pan fried dumpling very mediocre. Filling was slightly firmer, but skin was not crispy at all. Lo-mein didn't have much flavor, only impression I had was oily. The bill was 31tax included, not terribly pricey or cheap, but the food was very disappointing. Not really bad, but disappointing given the current 4.5 rating. Given the high rating and the plain decor, I had expectations that it would compare to Yu garden or Nanxiang in food quality, but definitely no
really great place for Shanghainese food!! we found this place as our Airbnb was close by and decided to give it a try. hands down one of my favourite shanghai/chinese spots in town. the dumplings are definitely made with love and packed with flavour. i would recommend the xiao long bao and pan fried dumplings. these are 10/10! the shanghainese noodles are another must try. super flavourful and filling!
Elmhurst hidden gem. Soup dumplings are amazing. Pepper steak is to die for. Top it off with a homemade iced tea. Service is great, super friendly and accommodating staff.Food: 5/5
Really delicious shanghai food. The vegetable and the ribs go really well with white rice, especially the sticky ribs sauce. Their soup dumpling is good as well. Mapo tofu and aromatic beef are okay. Crispy duck is crispy but not too much meatFood: 5/5
I normally pride myself on being an easy going patron but when I first came into Shanghai Zhen Gong Fu, I was pretty moody. Intense PMS + 3 small kids. Between hormones and yelling children, I was hot and cranky and really not at my best. Bill our waiter quickly seated us and offered to sit us directly under the air conditioner and even got a second fan to point at us. It was heaven. I apologized for my mood and thanked him but he told me there was no need to apologize and he was SO happy, funny and kind..and most of all, accommodating! :- We ordered about 6 different things but ate them so fast I only had a chance to get a picture of a few. The food typically would take longer to come out but we had it at our table within a few minutes. It was awesome. The duck was SO crisp and the meat was all the way good through and my husband and I agreed that this restaurant serves the best Lo Mein and General Tso's chicken we've ever had in our 35+ years of life :- It was a wonderful experience and amazing food. Our little kids loved everything as well which was a big win. The restrooms were also clean ;- I always love that. It is a good reflection on the restaurant. We will definitely come back :- Thanks for the great experience, Bill.
Update 2024: So we ate here on e this y3ar and becam3 ill. The staff is still the same but th3 cl3nasiness is not. My child was really ill and we both decided that it would be our last visit. Amazingly good! Every dish is freshly made. The Sesame chicken amazing. Large portions of food. You are greeted as soon as you come in. The staff and manager are courteous and friendly. Excellent service. You must try it for yourself. Everyone looks so happy while eating. You are going love it here. One of the best restaurants in the city.
Absolutely delicious soup dumplings xiaolongbao. I’ve been thinking about them ever since. Shrimp dumplings were also among the best I’ve ever had! I preferred the normal soup dumplings to the truffle flavored ones which were more expensive. But even so, it was a fun novelty to try and I haven’t seen truffle soup dumplings anywhere else.
One of our fave restaurant in Queens, and its not too far to our home! If we crave dumpling soup, this is the first place we think the best to go! We always order 2 pork soup dumplings, coz I’m telling you, you’ll regret not getting another one! Soup dumplings are not meant to share. Lol! So yummy, you can finish the whole thing and might think of getting another one! Hahaha. And we love the salt and pepper pork here too! Its so tasty. That one is good for sharing, just order one more extra rice and you’re good! I love their menu! Looks classy even tho its just a small restaurant. Lets talk about the service/server, we’ve never came here with not nice server. All of them are sweet and welcoming. They kept checking up on the customers if in need more of anything. We love it when we don’t need to call them for a glass of water, they gonna keep refilling it! Haha. That’s how attentive they are. They deserve the 5 stars rating tho!
A hidden gem. Very unassuming Shanghai themed eatery even by Chinese restaurant standards. Nice simple place, mostly locals. It was fully occupied even at 7pm-ish. Lady was very nice, food came out in reasonable time. Xiao Long Bao XLB is one of the more mainstream items. And this is probably the more flavorful XLB I have had in the Queens/Flushing area. Most places are fairly similar tasting and kind of bland but at Shanghai Zhen Gong Fu, it's filled with crab meat not crab powder!!! that you can see! The broth was refreshing and had that simmered for hours taste. Both the pork and crab meat XLB were beyond expectation. Pan fried seafood noodles were okay. Not too much seafood. This was average. Enoki mushrooms and watercress dish was the real winner in this meal. This was a really well done dish, simple and flavorful. Not sure what the secret is. The flavor of watercress and enoki went really well with the sauce. Great meal with really exceptional prices especially during these times. Just really well done homely dishes.
