There's not a specific entry for the women's center but I want to warn others... I've been familiar with the facility since the 90s and I can't believe how the model for all women's centers has gotten so bad. First is parking - you can fight with the employees for the 'Visitor and Patient Parking Only' at Brier Patch or pay crazy prices at the garages. My mom was excited for the handicap valet service until realizing instead of walking down the hall through the hospital to the Women's Center - she would have to walk all around the hilly campus. Need a quick spot of the 4 'Patient Unloading/Loading'? Too bad - cars will be parked there for hours including the Security SUV that doesn't enforce anything but rather hangs out with their employee girlfriend in the 3 minute parking during lunches/breaks. Nurses? Listen - I know everyone's short staffed, overworked and our nurses are heroes - but some basic courtesy for patients and visitors would be great. The front desk, nursing staff seem to all pick and choose what rules they enforce and when they enforce them. Made it through the front desk, a couple nurses and now changing your baby in the NICU? Be prepared for an agro nurse to yell at you for not having THEIR mask, waving one at your face while your 4 pound baby flails around below you. One nurse rolled us a office style chair so we wouldn't have to stand next to the one provided chair, the other nurse chastised us for holding our baby in a chair with wheels. We had nurses show us how to feed our baby and then other nurses that looked at us in disgust, letting us know how to feed them a completely different way. We had nurses scold us for holding our baby because she needed the energy to grow, to let her sleep - we had other nurses ask why we don't hold our baby. Have I mentioned the neglect our fragile premie experienced when her butt was so diaper rashed it was beet red? How about the nurses that shame you for only producing mLs of breast milk the days after your baby was born 2 months early? It wasn't just us - we witnessed other scared parents as well. After our weeks in the NICU we finally ended up learning the daily and weekly schedule that no one tells you until your wife is about to pump. Pumping is encouraged in the NICU but if you're stuck in the middle of a shift change or one of the weekly meetings you're told to leave without warning, nurses annoyed with you not knowing their schedule and you're stuck with aching, drippy breasts. Don't expect a lactation room or any sort of accomodations in this 'women's center', just TWO run down, vandalized public restrooms shared with the 20+ NICU beds, 20+ patient rooms, procedure and surgery rooms. You know why no one will complain or escalate the issue to management? Our baby's lives are in these people's hands. We're terrified and emotionally fragile. The goods? There were a few great nurses Lactation RN Emma, NICU RN Ruth, Matt, Ultrasound Tech Ian, OR staff and Drs. There are volunteers / auxiliary that sew the newborns blankets, hats and hold them. The rooms finally got renovated including patient room bathrooms. When the cameras weren't turned off overnight or shoved to the side they offered a nice webcam to view our daughter. Also, my wife stayed healthy even after nurses forgot her meds a few times and my baby was able to come home. The worst part is knowing how great an experience I've had before and knowing that there's no other hospital in East County.
Horrible. URGENT CARE: Brought my partner in due to profuse and nonstop vomiting. She was fainting on the way in so they said they needed to transfer her to the ER. That's fine, cool... they wouldn't give us a wheelchair. I had to physically walk my partner from the Care Clinic to the ER AS SHE WAS COLLAPSING. They were aware of her condition, said they were going to wheel her, and then immediately take it back and put her in a situation where she could have passed out in the middle of the road. Absolutely insane. The women's area of the hospital was very attentive, but they blamed my partner's vomiting on cannabis use BASED ONLY on the fact that her other tests came out normal. The only issue was that her stomach was inflamed, but after she said she occasionally smoked cannabis for her injury pain, they simply wrote it off as that because they had nothing else this is literally what they told us. Her discharge papers did not have anything helpful except for a million pages on how smoking is bad for you, how to quit, how to stop drinking ???????, and absolutely nothing else besides the one prescription they gave her for nausea. I understand when tests come back inconclusive and you can't treat what you can't find, but this was just insulting. My partner does not feel like she can trust the staff at Grossmont ever again... Except for one nurse whose name has escaped me who discharged my partner. She was amazing and listened to all of our concerns, made us feel welcome, and dealt with the stress in the most professional manner I have seen out of everyone. I remember her last initial was "G." Whoever you are, huge props to you and thank you for making our stay much more comfortable. Anyways, never going back.
Accessibility: there are accessible/handicap parking spots in front of every building here, then there are large parking garages with extra parking. There are elevators, ramps, and stairs to get in and out of the parking garages, and elevators in all buildings with multiple stories of course. The hallways are pretty big inside this building, more than some other hospitals I've seen. Experience: well first off, I had to pay for parking to come to a doctor appointment here...they do not have validated parking, yes I asked my doctor and the front office staff directly. I was there for 1 hour and paid 4 dollars as I was leaving the parking lot...there was a person there at the ticket booth to hand money to. But my doctor, Dr. Lance L was very nice, helpful, educated, and clear in explaining things. I liked him. Masks: are required to enter anywhere here October 6, 2021.
Security was harassing me for parking in the drop off/ pick up area because I was waiting to pick family that got discharged. Old people move slow and need more time then others. But yet the short girl with black hair that checks people in was also parked there with her boyfriend. It looked like she was talking her lunch with her boyfriend while they parked in drop off/ pick up area. That area is designed for us and not them. Security needs to step up and let employees know who are parking there to hangout with there boyfriends to not park there. I told the nurse that helped us out and she said that should not have happened and that she will let management know. I hope management knows what happened.
My father was bright to the ER by ambulance from urgent care. He had no ID our medical information with him. I tried to provide the information but I was told to wait 15 minutes while they completed some tests. I asked if I could just give his paperwork to a nurse so they’d have all his meds, etc. I was sent to the next windows. When I got to the front of that line they told me to go back to the first window. The unkind woman who helped me originally had a very rude “gentleman” speak with me. I said I just wanted the nurses working work my dad to have this info not my first rodeo with a 90-something parent in the ER. The gentleman said that I could give it to them when I’m allowed in. He then said, “Has it been 15 minutes?!” I said I just wanted to give them the paperwork, I wasn’t trying to get in. He said, “You can give it to them when you go in. Now go wait.” Super rude! I’m so sorry that I requested this ER! Last time I’ll do that!
Had to take mother to emergency room. Obviously your going to get mental health and transient patients the “security officer” belittle and cusses out one of the patients then threatens to kick out another for going into hysterics. I’m not really sure how this is recommended handling but it definitely wasn’t good patient care with any one involved or other patients that had to witness it. This hospital and all other sharp facilities like to claim that they give outstanding care and the sharp experience but definitely not the case post covid.
We were traveling from Arizona and were directed to go to Sharp Grossmont Emergency for what we thought might be a blood clot affecting my wife’s swollen leg. The hospital visit was no longer than what we’ve found in any emergency room here in Arizona. I can not say enough good things about the staff, from the security guard who greeted us to the complete emergency staff. Doctor Hein and nurse Jeff were so helpful in getting my wife’s diagnoses and our medicines prescribed at a late hour. They made us feel as if they cared. As we waited for release Pharmacist Adrienne came to our room with prescriptions in hand and eased the stress of making a pharmacy stop. Everyone went beyond expectations. Thank you Emergency Staff.
My moms nurse Ciara , is great at her job and was so kind and gentle with my 92 years old mom . She did her best to make sure that she was comfortable and content being at the hospital.. She’s amazing. We totally love her.. Also Lelei Was very kind and helpful, she made sure we had everything we needed, and it was very attentive to our needs. She’s at outstanding as well..
It is NOT okay the way they treat people. The rude, uppity, middle-aged Latina lady with shoulder-length dark hair really needs a lesson in manners. She was working the check desk in the very front in the main entrance the morning I encountered her. My mother was having last-minute surgery, so obviously I was distraught and was simply asking if she could check me in--but this woman gave me such as hard time when all I was doing was checking in to see my mother in preop. Her attitude is sickening. Even towards her co-worker that morning. If you don't like to help people in need--don't work at a hospital.
Had the worst night with inhumanity nurses. I wasn’t feeling good, had a fever, diarrhea, and vomiting so my family took me to the hospital to get some help. They had me to wait from 12 AM till 4 AM for the doctor to see me and I was very dizzy dur to losing a lot of nutrition. The nurses kept talking in between themselves and laughing all the time. Finally after 4 AM the doctor came to see me I guess they have only one doctor in the emergency room so if someone in danger, probably they’ll die before a doctor sees them. They don’t respect humanity and all they care about is business.
