We have done several projects with Shay Construction. A coworker recommended them to us 15 years ago or so.  We’ve recommended them to others ,too. We’ve often had the same crew over the years; reasonable and accurate prices; great communication; they show up when they say.

Used them for USAA Insurance Co. water damage claim in excess of $12,000.  Initial contact excellent, estimate excellent, and work completed in reasonable time initially to my satisfaction.  Reason for low rating is their failure to follow-up and complete warranty work on their repair despite sending rep out and agreeing that warranty work was required to fix their problem.  Despite phone calls and email correspondence stretching out over a month they simply failed to show up.  I complained to USAA and I wonder why with all the follow-up problems they have USAA continues to use them.

Our basement flooded and our insurance forced us to use this company.  They were great at first, repaired our walls and replaced most of our flooring within the first week.  Then crickets.  We are still missing a vanity and flooring in a couple of rooms.  They do not return phone calls.  They refuse to provide us with an invoice for work that has been completed to date.  Shame on USAA for having this company on their list of contractors.

I tried to work with them and we could not even get started.  I made an appointment for them to come and look at our issue and the appt. was made for 2:00 PM the following day.  I also informed the young lady on the phone that I would be leaving work for this so if you will be late to please call and let me know.  She then informed me that the appt. will be between 2-3 but they only say that giving reasons for traffic but he will be there at 2:00 other wise he will call.  Moving to the day of the appt. when I called at 2:40 PM yes 2:40 to see where the contractor was, I was FIRST informed that my appt. was at 3:00 PM by the same person from the day before.  After I broke down our entire conversation from before, she informed me well that is what the email says, and then I informed her that I never received and email, then I was informed oh the contractor was suppose to call you at 2:00 if he was going to be late.  I then said oh so you do realize that appt was at 2:00.  She then asked me to hold on while she tried to reach the contractor.  I was then informed that he could not be reached and was not answering his phone.   I told them never mind if it is this difficult just to come to see the problem what issues will I have if they tried to do the job.
