Never fair does not pay attention to black kids.

When we were relocating from out of state, we chose the Shenandoah area because of the record of their public school.  We wanted to keep our children in public school and Shenandoah Elementary has proven to be the best of the non-magnet elementary schools in Baton Rouge.  We love the community feel and parental involvement.  The school has the best parental involvement that I've seen.  They also do a lot of fun things for the children... monthly pizza nights, monthly game nights (laser tag, Chuck E. Cheese, Skate Galaxy ... etc.), ice cream parties, & more.  

Academically, the school has a solid track record.  Unfortunately, the state of most public schools is to "teach to the test".  Although this is the case, I still feel that my children are learning.  Everyone's experience is going to be different but I can say that our decision during our relocation to purchase a house in Shenandoah so my children could go to the school was well worth it.
