This store used to be my go to place for stain matching. Cassie was extremely knowledgeable and did a fantastic job getting stain to match. Unfortunately she no longer works there and the remaining staff just don't compare. I came in with a large piece to test stain on. A man who appeared to be a new hire in training took my information and what I was trying to match. I was told stain matching could take up to 24 hours and I would receive a call when finished. I waited 5 days without hearing anything before calling the store. They said it was ready for me to approve. When I returned the same man started to assist me, but didn't remember anything and didn't even know they should produce a quart of stain for me (even though I was asked when I dropped it off the first time how much I needed). He then got another employee named Joe to explain to him what to do. Both of them looked for the stain but couldn't find any, and had no idea what mixture was used or who created it. When asked what they did and if they applied any topcoat (lacquer or poly) to the match the couldn't tell me. Looking at the sample it wasn't even close to what I was trying to match. I then explained to the Joe what I was trying to stain plywood to match hardwood, and then would be putting a lacquer or poly over both the plywood and hardwood. I thought he understood, but I soon found out he didn't. He instructed the 1st employee to get spray polyurethane can and read the instructions. I then watched the employee read how to use a spray can for several minutes. When I saw they were planning to spray the plywood (which was suppose to be used to test the stain on) I mentioned they shouldn't spray the entire thing or there won't be any area left to test the stain on. Joe said he understood. The first employee then shook the spray can until Joe stopped counting and said he could spray it. They sprayed a large portion of the sample plywood so there was only a small strip left that could be used for testing stain on. Joe said he thought it looked good and to show me. The 1st employee came to show me as if it were a good completed job. It was then I realized they thought I wanted them to test poly on the plywood. I said that I didn't think they could do what I needed and would take my business elsewhere, and Joe was called back in. Joe assured me they could do what I needed (after explaining I came in for stain matching (again)) if they gave them a chance. I said ok, that I would give them another 24 hours and would be back the next day. I also asked them to call me when it was ready. 26 hours later without a phone call I stopped back into the store. After waiting 2-3 minutes (without any employee to be seen) a 3rd employee came out of the bathroom. I let him know I was there for a stain match. He came back with with what appeared to be the same pieces, with nothing done at all. When I asked what they did, he told me he had no idea, and called for Joe, who had been sitting out of sight. He then said my stain match had been put on the back burner and they in fact did nothing with it. I asked for my pieces of wood and left for Diamond Vogel. I can understand new hire employees not knowing processes, but if that is the case they should not be accepting work alone. There was clearly no communication between employees, as 3 different employees had no idea what was done or what stain mixture was tried. I am extremely disappointed that they did not call after 5 days, and then after having an initial bad experience that my "project" could not be taken off the back burner. I live 45 minutes away so having to make several trips costs me both time and money. If you know exactly what you need, the products are good products. But if you need assistance/customer service I recommended going elsewhere.
