Story

Sherwood Episcopal Church is one of 118 parishes in the Diocese of Maryland. Sherwood Church is a beautiful 1830 gothic revival style sanctuary which overlooks Limestone Valley and the town of Cockeysville. Frances Thwaits Deye Taylor offered the community (Rector, Vestry and Congregation) a gift of five acres of land. She wanted a chapel to be built there and requested that it be called “Sherwood” after her own estate in Cockeysville, and taken from Sherwood Forest in England.

Mission

We welcome all people, regardless of race, shape or size, social or economic background; we are all children of God and are all loved by God. To shun one of God's children is to shun God.

It is our intentional practice, as it has been for centuries, to apply individual reason to the interpretation of Christ's teachings and thus we gain further insight by worshiping with a community rich with diversity. Using a doctrine based on scripture, tradition and reason allows our church to evolve and meet the challenges of today as well as those of the future, giving our parishioners support and guidance to meet change with courage, determination and compassion.
