Shore Pedal & Paddle offers Bicycle, Kayak and Stand up paddleboard rentals, sales, tours and instruction. We are located on the main street of beautiful St. Michaels, Maryland. We have a floating dock in St, Michaels Marina and a kayak launch down the street on San Domingo Creek. We rent by the hour, 1/2 day, full day and weekly. Our season is April 1st - October 31st. My family of 5 rented kayaks during a brief stay in St. Michaels.  The staff was friendly enough and said they would help us to and from the water and all we would need to do is enjoy the ride!  20 minutes into the ride a severe storm caught us mid river in about 8 foot of water.  I paddled my 8 year old son to shore and got him onto land and had to swim out to my 12 year old daughter to pull her back to land and then re enter to pull my wife and 17 year old daughter to safety.  This all took place in 40-50 mph winds, lighting and thunder, trees falling, and sea nettle infested waters!  etc.  My fear was added to see staff was absent to assist us to land as we attempted to row cheap plastic kayaks with life preservers that did not fit until it was too late to find out.  The screaming of my son and youngest Daughter saying " help me Daddy" makes me sick to this day. Fortunately as we walked confused from the waterfront a nearby resident took us in to their house until the storm passed.  After the rain the streets were flooded and we all were exhausted so the kind resident drove us back- mind you all this time our host still had not came to see if we were dead or alive.  Upon dropping off our gear I told the attendant "we almost died out there!".  He responded with "yeah, and I heard our stuff blew into the river and we're going to have and go get it!!"   
I have never experienced such a high level of ignorance and hope karma will do its job on these sorry sacks!  There lack of concern and laziness is overwhelming.  The fact they stayed safe in there cozy store leaving us without assistance or so much call for help is unacceptable.  In addition the fact they hand out life preservers and tell u don't need to wear them is really amazing as they don't fit an overage size adult and you don't know this until it's too late.  In addition they are liable to check weather forecasts before putting families in harms way.  I would suggest you keep your money and family safe and not do business with this store.

Super friendly staff and owner! Everything you need to enjoy St Michaels from a sup or kayak!

We rented a two person sit on top. Being concerned about rain they checked weather and rain radar for us.

Great time! We rented two kayaks -- the guys were fantastic helping us in and out of the harbor. Highly recommend!
