While $40/month sure seems expensive in an area where just a few blocks away you could be paying $50/year, just know you will spend $100-$200 more than that per year on the parking tickets you will receive! Since moving into my apartment on Oakland in 2016, I have accrued $875 in parking tickets. My husband has received a similar amount. They lowered the monthly overnight parking fee to $40 a $10 decrease from the $50 we used to pay but along with that change, they started enforcing alternate side parking, which limits available parking spots SO much... Not to mention increases your odds of getting a ticket TENFOLD. On top of that, between December-March spaces are limited even further. It is ridiculous that there's 12 car's worth of spaces open on the "wrong" side of the street while we have to parallel park and cram in like sardines to park on the "right" side of the street. If we weren't in such a great apartment with gracious landlords who have never raised our rent, we would have moved out of Shorewood by now for the parking alone. The parking here is a problem enough that I would never recommend someone live in Shorewood unless their dwelling includes off-street parking. It's sad that such a great community's reputation can be dampened so much but such harsh and awful parking parameters.
I pay $40 a month for street parking and can’t even park outside of my apartment consistently because of inconsistent ticketing rituals. Absolutely awful service and purely a money grab. Not sure where the money is going - it’s not like the roads and sidewalks are fabulous here.
Look at all the negative reviews and still no change. Shorewood is a greedy village! This is not New York City!
Shorewood parking is absolutely ridiculous. It’s nothing more than a shameless money grab. I pay an exorbitant amount in property taxes, pay monthly for on street parking, and get ticketed, without fail, when I can’t find a spot on my street due to the bars at the end of my block. I hold a lot of pride in Shorewood, but it’s certainly not because of its parking restrictions or it’s other absurd rules that make being a homeowner here incredibly difficult.
This isn't Chicago, so there's no reason why parking needs to be this complicated and overpriced. Shorewood's parking rules don't make any sense, and the parking department does a terrible job of communicating those rules. The new odd/even parking rule reduces available street parking by 50% and forces me to move my car every day, even though I don't drive every day. What am I supposed to do with my car when I go on vacation? What a great way for the parking department to make more money--by creating more ways to ticket people. If you rent in Shorewood, you better get a garage space. Street parking may sound cheaper, but with all the tickets you'll incur, it ends up being more expensive.
The parking in Shorewood, much like many other city areas is abhorrent at best. That is correct, issues in multiple forms as finding a spot and price* seem to propel themselves on so many poor drivers in a remorseless mockery. Let me point out, firstly, dishonest price gouging minimally is $600 a year, not including those VERY sneaky tickets. Man, forgetting to move a vehicle in the morning to wake up several hours after sign-time without a ticket is like winning the lottery. Visiting occasionally on weekends, and that is a one month economy apartment sized expense. So, another person I do know pays double that each year. Maybe try doing a $100 per year payment, rather than domineering hard working folk's credits. Secondly, finding a spot, that is even slightly convenient, goes without description. I gave an extra star due from getting twenty-four hour parking on weekends, if a spot is vacant!
Needlessly complex and expensive. It is $40 a month for street parking and alternate side parking every day of the year. The parking office told me this was to "make Shorewood more similar to Milwaukee" whose parking is $40 a year and alt side only in snow emergencies. Between the parking passes and ticketing every night it seems like a cash grab.
Whether you pay or not pay the $40 one-month street parking fee, it makes no sense. The vehicle must be moved between 3 am and 5 am every morning, otherwise a fine will be imposed. This is the fourth day I was fined $25, yes, it is already $100. wojuedetietiaojingchakandaozhegeleshayebieshuolecnm
Let’s just say the only reason we won’t be staying or buying in Shorewood is SOLELY because of the comical parking rules....... they act like it’s Chicago it’s beyond frustrating. I never had a ticket a day in my life until we moved here and I’m sure I’ve had 15 already in under a year. Live somewhere else.
Really disappointed in Shorewood’s cheap tricks used to ticket street parkers, all while charging $40 a month. So sad that Shorewood doesn’t care about their residents, only what’s in their pockets.
