On February 28, 2018 at around 9:30pm, I was pulled over for a broken tail light by a black, unmarked car. It was an officer with the Sioux City PD and "Alcohol Safety Action Program" unit. At first, he informed me of the issue but then began to ask me where I came from and where I was going. Taken aback, I refused to answer. It's none of his business. He then asked if I had been drinking and I replied no, that I had not nor do I ever, as my father was killed by a drunk driver. I gave him my information upon his request and he walked to his cruiser. Minutes later, he returns and tells me to step out of the car without telling me why, although I did ask, many times. I exited, with caution. At first, I was told I lied about my plans for the night, when in fact I refused to answer in the first place. This made me feel even more uncomfortable. There's no doubt he was attempting to cause more trouble than was necessary for a broken tail light. I was made to follow his finger for 3 minutes, well after I demanded the breathalizer. It was clear he was dragging this on for longer than what was necessary. At the height of my concern, I asked for names and badge numbers of him and his fellow officer. I was refused the latter. My apparent anxiety about the manner in which this officer was handling the situation was mocked, with a follow up of questions such as "are you on medication" and "do you have any mental illnesses". Finally fed up with his disrespect, I demanded to speak to his supervisor and the video of this exchange can be seen on my Youtube channel. I'm concerned, to say the least. I don't like feeling as though I cannot trust the police to not abuse their positions. I like this city, but not the way these particular civil servants here are conducting themselves and not understanding causation, that a cop's misconduct can and will cause a citizen to distrust them. This doesn't mean someone is under the influence or suffering from a mental illness, but that they are doing their best to deal with the questionable behaviors of certain employees of the Sioux City PD.

Officers are extremely courteous and helpful. They never over extend their authority. Serve and Protect is exactly what they do.

This review is easy since I can describe this department in one word "LAZY"

I received notice in the mail of a speeding violation on Interstate 29 in Sioux City with pictures taken by an automated speed camera. How lazy and chickenshit can you get? They obviously split the ticket revenue with the company that makes the speed camera. Screw you and your dishonest speed camera. If you can't post a policeman with a speed gun to catch violators the you don't deserve enough the revenue. I won't spend another dime in Sioux City, Iowa and will tell everyone I know to avoid the place like the plague. I also know that Sioux City has gotten flack from the state government for this and yet they still do it. It is not about stopping speeders, it is a another revenue stream. I will pay the fine and will never pass through your town again.
