Located on Chicago’s South Side, SkyART is a non-profit that provides free visual arts programming for youth ages 7 to 24.
CORE VALUES
In pursuing its mission, SkyART is guided by three core values:
YOUTH ENRICHMENT – SkyART serves a safe haven for youth within the economically distressed community of South Chicago. It offers opportunities for youth to: expand their artistic talents through the use of the visual arts; build meaningful relationships through collaboration; foster leadership development and prepare youth to be resilient and responsible civic-minded citizens
CREATIVITY – SkyART uses the visual arts as an instrument for self-expression and as tool to empower youth to engage in creative critical thinking for problem-solving
ACCESSIBILITY – SkyART believes in an “open-door” philosophy that encourages community youth to engage in its free (low cost) visual art programming
CORE COMPETENCIES
UNLIMITED ACCESS – SkyART offers free (low-cost) programming to community youth and supports their long-term engagement with its programs and activities
SAFE HAVEN – SkyART is an anti-violence/gang-free zone that fosters trust, provides emotional and physically safety, and inspires a sense of youth pride and ownership of its communal space
QUALITY PROGRAMMING - SkyART hires experienced teaching professionals who are culturally competent and who reflect the community served. SkyART’s programs and curricula are tied to educational standards design to further reinforce youths’ academic learning.
With art at the center of everything we do, SkyART provides free, safe, open spaces where young people are empowered and connections are made.
