About

SLAM is a 6th to 12th grade charter school in Miami, FL featuring academic strands for students seeking careers in Sports Leadership And Management.

Story

SLAM is the newest addition to the Mater Academy network of high performing charter schools. SLAM will offer a unique sports leadership curriculum across grades 6-12 for students pursuing careers in the sports field.

SLAM will also provide students with year-round opportunities to intern with athletic teams and professionals in the sports industry. By choosing a major area of interest, students will receive exposure to a career field of their choice within the following career academies:

• Academy of Sports Management and Marketing
• Academy of Sports Broadcasting and Communications
• Academy of Sports Medicine and Health Sciences

SLAM features a state-of-the-art seven story facility with capacity for 1,000 students and a penthouse gymnasium with views of Miami’s downtown as well as the Miami Marlins Ballpark.

Mission

Sports Leadership and Management Charter Middle/High School’s mission is to provide an innovative, in-depth educational program preparing students for secondary studies and beyond through an emphasis of sports-related career preparation.

The school philosophy is the mechanism through which the mission will be achieved. In order to produce college bound and career-oriented graduates, the school believes it must provide Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships in the educational program.

From the beginning this school has made promises but never commited too them. This school hides the flaws in the program, because if they don't they wont have the ability to expand in other locations. For 2 years, a large quantity of students had to be taught in the hallway or gym, because there wasnt enough classrooms for the large sum of students and that they hadn't finished the new buildings in time. Both occurred for almost half of the year. We've had teacher with student relationships that never gotten publicized because they want to protect the image of "SLAM being a good school". During the 2015-2016 school year it was a female student with the gym coach, and now in the current 2017-2018 school year it was another case with a female student with a security guard. No one knows about it of course, except for a hand full of students, but rather not say anything due to fear. Both members were never shown to authority to prevent them from doing it again, they still have the ability to work at another school and repeat their actions. I've seen roaches and mice in a school meant for kids. Some teachers get fired if they try to speak up about problems with the system. This school cares more about profit than their students. Please reconsider enrolling your kids in this school, it'll be a liability, rather than an opportunity.

The school is ruined. IT SUCKS! I GOT HURT BY THE SECURITY 2 TIMES! IM SICK OF IT!!! I FEEL LIKE GRABBING THE SECURITY AND HITTING HIM FOR HITTING ME! THIS SCHOOL HAS CARELESS TEACHERS, SECURITIES, AND PRINCIPALS! MS. GOMEZ IS WORSE! SHE DOESN’T CARE ABOUT ANYONE IN THE SCHOOL! I NEVER SEEN THESE TEACHERS SO BAD! If they moderate this iPad, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER SLAM! ESPECIALLY YOU SUPERVISOR!

BULLYING is allowed in the school, the school board accusing parents without proof and covering bullies. QUESTIONABLE SCHOOL BOARD. Attorneys will be in these cases soon. If your children is victim of bullying in that school, please contact attorney immediately. WORST SCHOOL EVER!

This place is disgusting and a prison. The staff are the most disrespectful pigs I’ve ever met. Not only to my children but to me as well. The assistant principals are careless they only want to do things that are better for them. Teachers are so inconsiderate. The athletic director is just incredibly disrespectful. Teachers don’t care about making the kids better to help them out.... for god’s sake if YOU choose to teach you better teach. Stop complaining and harrasing kids. They complain to much about their low salary. So they get on the kids cases to psss the class just so they can increase their salary. WORST SCHOOL EVER!!!!! DON THINK ABOUT THE HELL YOURE GETTING INTO!

I am currently in the school I'm a student and I saw that so an year or two years ago I saw that people were giving bad reviews and sending hate to the school now I think that this school has improved a lot the FOOD Is the best food I've ever had and I'm not kidding I'm for realz. They give nachos and hotdogs and pizza only on mondays the food is healthy because with every plate there comes a fruit they either put a bannana or an apple to be healthy and the staff is great the teachers are awesome totally has improved the teachers are so nice and they now Have New I-PADS to do the homework and ive heard that Pit bull the singer and many other ppl that are famous come and visit the kids I'm deffintely excited for my first year of middle School ya wohoo go Slam Academy
